This really isn't the worst comparison. Sure, it is easy to make because they are similar sizes, both left handed, etc. But it really isn't that far off...
Potential goes both ways - sometimes good, most of the time bad. That sad, I could also dismiss any player's potential by name dropping NBA flunkies like Tyrus Thomas, Eric Montross, and Shaun Livingston.
Based on ONE play you were made to make that determination. smh... Jones is plenty athletic for a big guy.
I *could* dismiss, but I didn't - you did. I like the idea of playing internet GM, comparing players, and posting virtual words about sports teams.
As talented of a player Josh Smith is I notice people never bring up the enormous amount of bone head plays he makes (many when the game is on the line) and also how he can go jump shot crazy and refuse to drive in the paint. Has he ever made an all star team and he's in the east...??? The coaches didn't even vote him in...??? But it's strange how all of the knowledgeable fans who scream for Morey to give Josh Smith a max contract never look at the fact that Josh Smith is .42 percent from the field .14 percent from three point range with 8 rebounds and 15 points per game in the playoffs for his career and they think that is worth $20 mill a year... I hope Morey sticks with TJ.
terrence jones plays smarter too. when he's off from three, he doesn't continue to chuck. he could end up being a smarter version of j-smoove tbh.
true, he doesn't really have that spring and at times he looks like he's lumbering across the court. he's still mobile than most bigs though, average hops just not a high bouncing pogo stick all things considered, he's still a decent prospect
I don't think we should sign Josh Smith. I don't feel he is worth a max contract which is what he seems to be looking for. We have 4 guys that are younger than 22 in Terrence Jones, Greg Smith, Donatas Motiejunas and Thomas Robinson who have all shown potential. Let's give them another year or 2 to see what they're capable. At this point TJ is showing the most promise of the the group. But, I'm the most curious of what D-Mo with an extra 20 pounds of muscle would be capable of.
When it comes to athleticism, the Jones/Smith comparison is about as accurate as the Jordan Hill/Amare comparison was. Not accurate at all.
This. Plus steals. And ability to defend on the perimeter as well as on the block. That said, Jones appears to play smarter than Smith, and playing smart and passing/playing team ball has ALOT to do with winning. So I would say that IF Jones works his butt off for the next 3-5 years and continues to play smart, AND if Smith does not improve his mental game, then Jones has the potential to be as valuable as Smith. Still, that does not make either one of them elite. Smith has the potential to be elite if he played real smart and got the mental side of the game together, but I think that we all knew that.
