You'd be surprised. I would say that it's the opposite. The better players learn to use the off-hand because it's necessary to get the shot off against the defense. I'd say that most recreational players cannot use their off-hand effectively.

Wow thanks for finding that. This is exactly how I am. I write with my right hand but can somewhat write with my left without thinking(sloppy), shoot with my left hand, dribble better with my right hand and prefer to go right and drift to my right while shooting as a lefty. Strength wise, when lifting weights etc, I'm a little stronger on my right side but my left isn't too far off. I find this condition to be very frustrating at times hooping because it causes some inconsistency in my decision making. But when I finally get it together, I'm locked in. I can go 9/10 behind the arc than moments later go 1/10.

I'm very right-hand dominant. I can barely brush my teeth with my left hand. However, my shooting touch is softer with my left. I shoot free throws better with my left, but my overall range suffers. I don't have enough power to hit outside of 15 feet. Also, I can only grab rim with my left. Kinda weird.

    Gary Payton

Could post and finish with either hand. Next to the Big O the best post up guard of all time.
