Apparently most of the runners had already finished when the bombs detonated, so there were actually less people in the stands than initially.

The casualty rates probably would have been a lot higher had the bombs gone off earlier.

I don't know where people keep reading this.

From what I read, the bombs were detonated right around the average finishing time, as posted earlier in the thread by someone.

Runner's World said 17,000 of the 23,000 runners were already done. Average finishing time doesn't necessarily mean median finishing time, so that might be the cause of the confusion.

The solution is to put up cameras everywhere.

    Like London did?

As someone who runs (I'm sure most of us here joined a run at least once) this is just sad. The body is nearing exhaustion and suddenly this sick joke happens. The reaction time is considerably slower.

London is just one city. The US has too many cities. If they have not caught anyone by now, chances are they got away.

    Unreal .

Was just in Boston Sunday. Most of the roads already had the railing/fences lying on the sides and ready to be used for the marathon Monday.

    Can't believe this happened here.

Pray for Boston, I could care less about the rockets at this point. Such a horrible and saddening situation.

Also the dude with the cowboy hat that helped the guy who lost both legs talking about the scene...shaking in shock

If I saw that, I'd be like hey free jacket. People must really care about this marathon thing if they're willing to hook me up with a nice jacket. This will really come in handy next winter. And people would call me a looter for that.

    Sounds like a sloppy job.

It had to be some type of lone guy character wanting to impress somebody. 2 out 7 went off. Not very efficient.

What if that was a group of black people? I'm sure the commentary would be very different.

The Post has been wrong about nearly everything they've posted about this event. It's really disgusting to watch them fling crap at the wall and hope something sticks.
