Welp, this thread turned into a train wreck. Just like every other thread. You guys need to learn to just let go sometimes.
There have been a few games where McHale's rotations and coaching decisions have been great, so he probably ended up having an impact in wins as well. It balances out, but it's easier to notice it when it's bad than when it's good.
I want to take a look at your arguments, because they are really bad and illogical. Also, your rhetoric is offensive to all standards of intellectual integrity. 1) First off, you say that you agree there is a chance that McHale may have "lucked" into winning games. So, right off the bat, you are saying that, if McHale did do anything that caused the team to win games, that was luck. So, while you speculate that a different coach might have won more games for the team because they are better than McHale, meanwhile, any games McHale won for the team were not because he was a good coach, but because of luck. Double standard -- illogical. 2) You say we have a rough estimate that McHale's decisions were not optimal and another coach would have done things more in line with "common sense". However, you did not proove your "estimate" that McHale's decisions were not optimal, you based them on the shared speculation of "veteran posters", who by the way disagree with other "veteran posters" -- so that is confirmation bias -- illogical. Also, "common sense" is not always optimal, nor universally established. I prefer expert sense. 3) "Likewise, we dont know if an average coach woulda done better than Mchale but its more probable than not." Based on what? Based on the fact that it fits into the narrative you are trying to weave. Unproven premise -- illogical. I'm not a huge McHale supporter. I hated the hiring originally, but I have been pleasantly surprised by the results he has gotten. Regardless of how talented you think this team is (does any other team in the western playoffs have a 2nd best player as bad as the Rockets?) -- the fact is that teams that give this much playing time to young players do not often have very good success. Because of this most people thought the Rockets would not make the playoffs, and the entire NBA world has been surprised. This happened under McHale. Using your teacher analogy, if a teacher went to a school or situation that has historically always underperformed, and then all of a sudden they were performing above average, everyone would give that teacher a lot of credit. That's McHale. Young teams traditionally underperform just like that school. And McHale deserves the credit we would give that teacher.
Yes we do. Pop is good, if not great, at everything. Great leader. Great with X's & O's. Great at developing players. Great with adjustments, great at late game situation time and timeout management. His team is always prepared. His players buy into his system. His track record speaks for itself, really. You're nuts if you think there's not enough prove that Pop is a good coach.
I have no idea why I read this thread. McHale has somewhat redeemed himself after his idiotic decisions during the last stretch of the season. I still cannot forgive him for that mess. Our roster would have made some noise that year. The players deserve the props, as well as Morey for getting Harden here. I'll give some credit to McHale, but he is an average coach at best. I'm happy that the Rockets are in the playoffs, and it will be an opportunity to grow. I have patience for young players to grow, but I do think there are better coaches out there to facilitate the growth. One love.... and Francisco Garcia is about to go into beastmode in the playoffs
Perfect timing for this thread. I wonder if Delfino will start at center when the Rockets are going against OKC this weekend.
Although our coach was not perfect tonight one game does not make a season. The coaching in this game was not the only reason why we lost.
Lol. delfino was our best rebounder out there. Small ball is not our game, and mchale still fell for the trap and got burned by the suns. Smh, let's hope they can figure out a way to beat LA now
McHale is dog poo... Harden didn't need to see the court in the 4th with the effort he was bringing. No rebounders in there late other than Jones, just the same old **** that has cost the Rox games earlier in season.
this coaching staff has managed to choke away the end of the season 2 years in a row with 2 entirely different rosters. methinks the front office will move in a different direction this summer
