The reports I've heard said ball bearings were used as part of the bomb.

Heard a reporter talk about that today is Patriot's Day and Tax Day. This week in 1995 was the OKC bombing also. There is however not a motive just speculating.

Yeah, just heard ball bearings and BBs, although a doctor also said they see no signs of shrapnel injuries, other than items that exploded...

I can't tell about one explosion, but from the video you can see only one of the runners around the other explosion went down and I watched him being led away later and he didn't seem to have any visible injuries.

Whomever done this, are pure ****ing cowards. Pisses me off.

All those children attending the marathon and seen those injuries, or injured will never be the same.

Some poor Saudi was probably on vacation...gets wounded while watching...and now is grilled.

Yeah, I think that is likely. But I'm obviously clueless as well. I hope they find whoever did this.

Being right by the blast could have blown his ear drums or just caused him to go into a daze.

I'm no bomb expert but the blast looks directional in both this video and the pattern on the ground in the one posted with the old photo of the mailboxes. Note: there were two mailboxes in the old google photo. Could a directional bomb disintegrate two mailboxes? Would it have to be much more explosive?

Also, this is a better photo. The blue looks like clothing. Compare it to the one earlier right have the explosion were you can't see any blue "shrapnel." I think first responders were cutting clothers off, either to get to wounds or for make-shift tourniquets....or shoes.

spoilder for size and they've already been posted in this thread. pasted here for convenience

There's blue plastic or cloth covering the temporary fences, HeyPee. That might possibly be what a some of that is.

Yeah and they way they reported sounded weird. The reporter was very careful on what he said so not to confuse anybody thinking that the Saudi man was a suspect, just being questioned. Also the sentence, "After an explosion the Saudi man started to run" had me puzzled. Yeah who the hell would not run if they heard an explosion?

Yeah, that too. I just suggested clothing because there is no blue in the first photo taken when the first responders are working...ie, the second one in my spoilered images.

That first image you posted, the one at a lower resolution, certainly looked like it could have been pieces of one of those mail boxes.

You're probably right. I don't think there is even a mailbox there during the marathon. The main explosion is about 3 meters in from the road as you can see the dark area. The explosive must have been dropped in the crowded zone.

I could be wrong. I can't really make out if those are shredded mails or are they shredded signs that people were holding up?

Probably just a case of social profiling. I mean who doesn't run away after a bomb goes off.

prayers to the entire boston community. sickening that there are so many evil people wanting to hurt innocents. I used to live on boylston street during my berklee years over more than a decade ago now and those same feelings that surfaced on 2001 crept in all over again.
