It's a joke to me that none of the Rockets players are in the top 3 for MIP. That includes:

James Harden, who last season in 31 mins per game averaged 16.8pts, 3.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds. Compared to this season in 38.2 mins per game (only 7 more than last season) he's averaging currently 26 pts, 6 assists, and 4.8 rebounds. So he's +9 in points, +2 in points, +1 in rebounds, and +1 in steals.

Omer Asik last season with the Bulls in 14.7 minutes averaged 3.1 pts, and 5.3 rebounds. This year currently in 30.1 mins per game, he's averaging 10.2 pts and 11.7 rebounds per game. So he's +7 in pts and +7 in rebounds.

Parsons last year in 28 mins per game averaged 9.5 pts, 4.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists compared to this year he's averaging in 36 mins 15.3 pts, 5.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

IMO, Harden has the strongest case, especially based on the fact that he's doing this only by playing 7 extra mins per game. I wonder how much research goes into these selections made by these "experts".

For which of the top 3 players do you think its a joke that they'd be considered more improved than Parsons, Asik, and Harden?

id argue asik over vasquez and sanders, george who knows... he has reached a fantastic level of basketball but he wasnt irrelevant last year and a solid role player... george is essentially harden to a certain extent... both were role players last year, important ones, harden having a bigger role... this year they have both been called upon to be the alpha dog and both have reached elite status, harden offensively and george defensively... harden still better... so you can even argue harden over george for mip...

i think all 5 are deserving... but asik went from a nobody backup to a premium center... similiar to sanders, but asik has helped lead a team to a more prominent team and playoff race than sanders... i dont watch much milwaukee ball, but imo asik plays a more significant role than sanders...

(5th place has almost twice as many votes as Parsons)

I think this award is misunderstood. I don't think most improved player = most underrated player. Last year it was Lin but he was just never given the chance. It's not like he suddently got better last year. Everyone already knew Harden is good and that's why Rockets offered him max. So no he's not MIP. You can make case about Parsons. However I feel if Parsons was playing with Harden and Lin last season, his number could be just as good as this season's. I think Asik should def be running for MIP. I've watched him getting better and better this season and is a lot better offensively than he was early season.

Harden was on the Olympic team for a reason. Everyone knew he was good.

Asik was great on the Bulls in his limited minutes.

I feel MIP should be given to a player who has made marked improvements in their games. Harden and Asik are still the same players they were last year except now they have more minutes.

I'm guessing you don't have access to watch the games because both players have made huge strides all season and Jeremy Lin. Parsons honestly doesn't belong in the MIP conversation because in my opinion he has been pretty steady since the end of last season.

Asik at the beginning of the season literally could not catch a pass to save his life and would always lay it up. He still has his fumbles but man has he improved his offense.

Harden as of late has turned up his defensive intensity and has worked on getting the ball moving a lot more as of late. He can be productive even when he does not get foul calls. This was not the case for the first half of the season.

Lin's growth over the season has been so remarkable. His confidence is high again. His turnovers are down. His shooting is so much better now it's ridiculous. Now he will never win MIP because the media probably thinks he has been a disappointment because the dude played like an all time great for two weeks last season.

Can't read full article, but the teaser has George as the top guy. He has improved his defense, but not by enough to be MIP, IMO. Might as well give it to Harden whose box score stats are going up in a similar way as he is being asked to do more.

Parsons to me is the only true MIP candidate on the Rockets. He has actually improved his shot a lot. His efficiency has actually increased this year as well as his role.

I do agree with this though. PG is definitely the MIP in my books but at least one of the Rockets will end up in the top 5 of voting.

The three obvious candidates on the Rockets certainly deserve consideration. All three would be good picks, in my opinion. There are several good candidates around the league. It's a tough decision.

We all expected Asik to have double double potential with starter minutes, and Harden to be a star with his own team.

I didn't expect Greivus Vasquez to be averaging 14 pts, 9 assists, and 4 rebounds though. Wouldn't mind offering Lin for Vasquez :d

I think Paul George won this award before the season even started

Contract plays a big role, because like a player's draft position, it "ranks" a player based on their perceived worth. So when a player outperforms his contract, he'll be more improved. Harden is paid like a superstar, and Asik is getting paid big bucks as well. Someone who gets paid the same amount between year A and year B with huge improvements in stats will be a much more likely winner.

If that's the context, then Chandler Parsons should be a runaway winner.

Paul George did indeed make a massive leap from just another young scorer off the bench to a potential superstar who makes their former starter Granger expendable.

The award is cursed anyways, I rather none of our players get it.

I don't think it makes sense to consider somebody much improved based on their stats when they are getting much more playing time compared to last season. Obviously their stats would be better.

I would look at things like field goal percentage, points per minute, decrease in turnovers, etc.
