I say we should either grab a Defense tackle with the first pick or Tight End (because really what is the point of getting a WR when we won't throw the ball where they can catch it).

I say we take Hunt in the first and draft DaRick Rogers in the 2nd. Kid has been labeled a Julio Jones Clone and his stats are great. He did get Kicked off the Tenn team for Team Rules but look at his stats.
As a true freshman in 2010, Rogers played in all 13 games for the Vols. He finished the season with 11 receptions for 167 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 117 rushing yards on 16 attempts, and returned 12 kickoffs for 298 yards.[12] As a sophomore in 2011, he started all 12 games, and led the SEC in both receptions (67) and receiving yards (1,040). He was also second in touchdowns with 9. At the end of the season, he was named a first team All-SEC selection.[13] On August 23, 2012, it was announced that Da'Rick Rogers had been suspended from the Tennessee Volunteers indefinitely for a violation of team rules, though no specific reason was publicly announced.[14] Rogers subsequently admitted to failing three drug tests while at Tennessee.[15]

After his suspension at Tennessee, Rogers transferred to Tennessee Tech.[16] On September 22, 2012, Rogers caught 18 passes for 303 yards in Tennessee Tech's loss to Southeast Missouri State, setting single-game school records for receptions and receiving yards.[17] In his lone season at Tennessee Tech, he caught 61 passes for 893 yards and 10 touchdowns.[18] He also passed 10 drug tests.[15] Following the 2012 season, Rogers was awarded the "Elite Wide Receiver Award" by the College Football Performance Awards for his efforts in the 2011 and 2012 seasons

I'm all for going BPA, but i have to tell you that we have a significant hole at ILB, and we need another passrushing OLB. NT and WR have to be addressed as well, but fortunately it's one of the deepest drafts i've seen in many years at both those positions. That is not the case with ILB and OLB. No idea how the Texans are gonna address the most vital needs and still stick to the BPA philosophy. I hope they're on the phone with Cleveland, who is shopping Jabal Sheard right now. I don't want to pass on a great talent just because we are reaching on ILB or OLB.

we've gotten lucky in previous years drafting at those positions. Every time, the player we nabbed was the consensus or near-consensus best player available. Cushing certainly was ...although Matthews turned out to be the best player. Brooks Reed would have likely been taken a few picks after we grabbed him. And last year Merculus was definitely the best player available. The stars aligned for us at those positions of need, but this year, i'm not so sure. There are very few top-end ILBs in this draft, and we have a guy coming off an ACL, and a hole at the ILB spot. We also have no 3rd down OLB or insurance OLB behind Brooks and Merculus.

how do we address these two positions while still feeling confident we are getting the BPA?

hoping for a ILB.. yeah alot of ppl saying we got Cushing we don't need one cuz he'll just come off the field on 3rd downs but that's because Cushing is our only good cover LB so what I'm hoping to see is Alec ogletree or Arthur brown picked 27th. both have speed and are two of the best athletes in the draft. both have great coverage skills on TEs and even saw Arthur brown covering slot WR in highlight films. Ogletree seems to be the playmaker (hard hitter) but seems to hit high often which means broken tackles while Arthur is more of a technique tackler and brings the guy down better. I don't see WR just because I don't think the offense we run needs a (legit number 2) because we run more 2 TEs (both good catchers) and most the balls thrown go to AJ. I do want to see a WR taken but maybe with 2nd or 3rd rounder. I want to see Keshawn Martin come into his own and think Lestar could (hopefully) make a significant leap after all the hype with him last season. posey when back should be number 2 but until then we need our young guys and most likely rookies to help fill the hole.

I just do *not* see why the fans are crying for a ILB.

Cushing is one of the best ILB. The other ILB (Sharpton, Dobbins, et al) only plays first downs and is replaced with a nickel back in passing situations. Using a high draft pick for a ILB who plays less than half of the time does *not* make sense.

The first two rounds should go WR1 (to let AJ become WR2) and OLB (to replace Barwin). The two third round picks should go NT (to replace Cody) and ILB (to upgrade Sharpton). The fourth and fifth round should OL (to replace Caldwell for depth) and S (to send Keo back to ST).

Cush has a problem staying healthy and he's coming off a serious injury. We need a capable ILB. I think it really showed last year after he went down.

I don't see how you can just slot in the position's you are drafting for by round. That would appear to go against the BPA philosophy. You don't want to reach on ILB in the 3rd round if a franchise player at another position is available.

BPA is PR. Teams put a premium on positions, which is reflected in the draft and in where FA dollars are spent.

The teams has needs as I listed above: WR, OLB, NT, ILB, OL, S. Generally, starting safeties can be found in the lower rounds, while WR1 can not. The exceptions make the rule.

the reason wade puts in an extra safety on third downs is cuz there's no cover LBs outside of Cush! everybody just gets beat! watch both patriots games. when the extra safety wasn't in there in the base 3-4 Hernandez and Vereen were beating them. Ed reed to me is too old to be moving down in the box to play the run. so what you need is an athletic fast ILB that can play the run pretty good and also cover a TE, RB, or maybe even slot WR. Alec Ogletree or Arthur Brown is what I'm hoping for in the draft.

On a cheap shot illegal block nonetheless. Don't see the issue with Cushing "staying healthy."

Still hard to forgive Kubiak for not putting a hit out on that lineman.

Can't go wrong with Arthur Brown if you ask me. I think he's the best ILB in the draft, and may very well be there and be BPA at 27. Not impressed by Ogletree.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock says he is "scared to death" of Georgia LB Alec Ogletree as a first-round pick due both to off- and on-field concerns.
Ogletree is a candidate to slide out of the first round because his character is a nightmare. "I’m scared to death about Ogletree, both for on- and off-the-field issues," Mayock said. "When you put the tape on, he has no clue what he’s doing. He looks like a safety that somebody plugged inside at inside linebacker. He just runs around." Mayock also called Ogletree's work ethic and passion for the game "question marks right now."

One thing I actually agree with Mayock in.

A player that looks like he could slide a bit is Damontre Moore, I think he would be a great option in the second for that OLB position.

    From Bleacher report: FWIW

Former California Bears' star receiver Keenan Allen has long been expected to be a first-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft. But he may see his stock take a substantial hit.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the receiver has been red-flagged for failing a drug test at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last month:

A subsequent report by Schefter notes that Allen's agent, J.T. Johnson, denies his client failing any sort of drug test. A source told Schefter that Allen had suspiciously high levels of water in his system during the combine.

The promising prospect will undergo another drug test this month, which will prove critical to teams considering him in the early part of the draft.

Allen is viewed as the top wideout in the 2013 draft class in some evaluators' eyes, and he has the size to line up on the outside but also the versatility to line up in the slot to be a threat. This apparent mistake may see him fall out of Round 1 despite his immense talent, though.

It definitely wasn’t a positive combine experience for Allen—especially in light of this information. He already could not participate in drills due to a knee injury, and this news makes his draft status all the more ominous.

A Grade 2 PCL sprain cut Allen's final collegiate season short. However, he did register 61 catches for 737 yards and six touchdowns for the Bears in 2012, and also scored a rushing touchdown and found the end zone once as a punt returner.

After thinking on it, I'm back on WR as being best for first round choice. Too much depth to ignore, then in later rounds address other areas.

either way you look at it, the texans have to hit on 2 quality starters, from day one, in the first 2 rounds and one of those positions needs to be WR

DeAndre Hopkins in the Top 25?

    Published April 16, 2013
    By Charlie Campbell - @draftcampbell

Lots of media attention has focused on the rise of West Virginia wide receiver Tavon Austin, but he is not the only wideout whose projected selection slot has been rising. Sources have told WalterFootball.com that Clemson's DeAndre Hopkins is being viewed as a serious candidate to go in the first 25 picks of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Hopkins was considered a second-rounder early in the draft process. He had an impressive Combine performance on the field and teams came away from his interviews liking him. Hopkins is now considered the third-rated receiver in the 2013 NFL Draft - given the declining status of Keenan Allen - and stands a good shot of going in the top 25 picks.

Scouts said that Austin and Cordarrelle Patterson are expected to be the first two receivers off the board, but these scouts believe Hopkins will be the third wideout to be selected. There are a number of teams that could target a receiver in the first 25. That group includes the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, San Diego Chargers, Carolina Panthers, St. Louis Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts. The Rams and Vikings both have a big need at receiver and each team has two first-round picks. That totals 11 picks in the top-26 selections that are in play for a wide receiver.

Hopkins caught 72 passes for 978 yards and five touchdowns As a sophomore in 2011. The junior became the No. 1 receiver for Clemson this season and had a great year, totaling 1,405 yards on 82 catches and 18 touchdowns. He scored touchdowns in 12-of-13 games. The only outing during which Hopkins didn't score was against Furman in Week 2 when he had 95 yards on seven receptions.

The 6-foot-1, 214-pound Hopkins is an extremely well-rounded receiver who plays taller than his listed measurement and competes for the ball. Hopkins' best traits are his route-running and quickness. He is able to consistently generate separation from defensive backs. Hopkins is also phenomenal at working in the intermediate part of the field to make catches that move the chains. He does extremely well running deep outs and other sideline catches, too.

If a team picking late in the first round - like the Packers, Texans, Patriots or Ravens - want Hopkins it will may have to trade up to get him. Scouts believe that Hopkins won't be there for those playoff teams, which would have to take another receiver if they don't more. Every year there are some players who go earlier or later than expected, and Hopkins could be one of the latter this year.

I predict that Hopkins will be the 2nd WR off the board, and Cordarrelle slides to the second.

    Over/under?
