Bill Simmons Thinks Dwight Will Sign With Houston

Another report says Dwight Howard plans to remain a Laker
Kurt Helin Apr 15, 2013, 9:15 AM EDT

    AP
Some people — and yesterday that group included some national television NBA pundits — will not let facts get in the way of some good speculation.

Any word leaked out of Dwight Howard’s camp has always been that he would stay a Laker. But that hasn’t stopped some people from speculating he might go to Houston or Cleveland (even though his already damaged image would take another hit as he would be seen as running away from the team of Kareem and Mikan and Wilt).

Now comes another report — this from the well-connected Sam Amick of the USA Today — that Howard is not going anywhere.

While the center who will be a free agent this summer has continued his noncommittal stance about whether he will sign with the Lakers or head elsewhere, two people close to him said they fully expect him to return. The people spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity out of respect for Howard’s decision to wait until the summer to make his final choice.

This is what we have heard all along. He’s not going anywhere.

Howard looked comfortable as the face of the Lakers on Sunday night, scoring 26 points and grabbing 17 rebounds as Los Angeles beat the Spurs. He was a vocal leader on defense and on offense was aggressive in getting deep post position so he could attack Tim Duncan. Dwight looked like a guy who wanted to take on the role as the leader of the Lakers.

Getting the Lakers into the playoffs — then playing well once there, even if the Lakers don’t get out of the first round — starts that process. He’s not replacing Kobe Bryant as the face of the franchise anytime soon, but he’s going to stick around L.A. and give it a shot

Makes sense and considering those factors and adding on the guy we currently have manning that position; I would say it wouldnt be a big deal if he stayed in L.A. Upgrading our PF spot and sureing up the bench should be priority.

But im no fool  if he wants to be a Rockest then by all means get'er done...

The reason for my previous post was not to declare Asik the better player..ofc he is not, I am just not so sure about wether he (D12) is the right piece to a title..Dwight never was (and in my oppinion) never will be someone with a motor and desire for a ship.

But like I said, thats my oppinion

If we get Dwight we are going to the finals. He would play better in Houston it's just easier to play on Houston.

He's 4'6" to the shoulder. The rest of it is head.

If Iverson "was a top 10 player in his prime", doesn't logic dictate that he lost to the other teams that had better players than he did?

I don't see Dwight leaving LA. Other than a shot at a title, which isn't guaranteed anywhere, LA has everything Dwight would want.

The only thing we can sell Dwight on is pairing him with Harden and CP3 to form another "super 3". Both Dwight and CP3 would have to be willing to take significantly less money and leave their playoff teams in the most basketball rich city in the NBA.

I think jumping to the Rockets is the smartest thing for Howard. I know Lakers can be enticing given the very large fanbase, the glamor, the franchise history, and their seeming organizational ability to keep winning. However, they can't win with this season's "superteam" and they'll have a very hard time putting together a different competitive roster with Howard's fat contract sitting in the middle, certainly this coming season, and probably another season or two after that, even with good management. And, I wouldn't count on the organizational ability to win anymore either. This isn't the same ownership and management of the championship years. And, without that winning, the glamor and the fanbase isn't worth much either. I think Howard could find himself presiding over a dark period in Lakers history if he re-ups.

Signing with the Rockets, he knows he's got another star who will be around for awhile. He knows he has a young and talented team. Asik could be traded for another valuable piece. He could contend in short order.

For the Rockets, I don't care so much. I think we could be good with Howard, and entertaining it because he is available. In a vacuum, I'd target PF as the position to fill with a second star. I think there's more talent to be had there. But Howard is ripe for plucking and sufficiently good.

I've been to quite a few Rocket games this year and other than the opener I have never seen the place sold out. When you weigh the pros/cons of adding Howard to this team factor in what it would mean to the organization to market that caliber of player to the city and to the NBA.

I don't think the Rox would ignore chemistry in terms of building a championship team but when you talk about a big ticket seller like him I would assume that Asik's play or Howard's idiosyncrasies factor less than we are giving credit.

    That is true.

By the way, you seem to have a lot of friends in LA. Have you heard anything special from out there regarding the Dwight situation?

    I hope he doesn't come.
The baggage that he brings with him is too big for the city of Houston.

So this was the 6th reply in this thread but had been completely ignored. Let me repeat:

Bill Simmons never said he thinks Dwight will sign with Houston.
