I am curious but do you have any actual data that African Americans and Mexican Americans are more accepting of obesity culturally than others? Just saying percentage wise that more of those groups are obese than other groups doesn't mean they are accepting of obesity anymore than saying that Texans are more obese percentage wise than Minnesotans says that Texans are more accepting of obesity. Also citing "Big Booties" isn't hard data.
1) Fast food 2) Carbonated/sugary beverages including those that feature HFCS 3) Frozen/canned food If you're obese then chances are you're diet consists of at least 1-2 of these three when it should consist of zero. Fast food in other countries are NOTHING like fast food in America. My friend came here from overseas and ate McDonalds and made me stop the car because he felt like he was gonna throw up. If they served the **** they serve here in other countries they would go out of business within a year in almost every country.
Not really. When you order food, part of the cost is preparation. Even in fast food. If the consumer purchased the ingredients at fair market value, and they used the same quantities they could recreate the dish at less cost. If you're destitute or unemployable, then your time is of such low worth that the savings from making the food yourself is cheaper than ordering it from a fast food restaurant. Of course, we are talking about cost and not convenience.
bro seriously. You state simplistic and obvious points and try to pass it off as if you've just explained some difficult and important concept. Sometimes I truly think you're trolling with many of your posts. I'm just impressed you didn't focus on Asia in this post, which is rare for you (I see you've already introduced Japanese once in this thread...) Now, if you actually would read carefully for comprehension, I posed it as a QUESTION, denoted by a question mark, when I first introduced the point about blacks and hispanics being more culturally accepting of obesity.
You're not supposed to COOK food in the microwave. You REHEAT food in the microwave (wrap it first). Avoid saturated fat, partially hydrogenated soybean oil AKA Partially Hydrogenated Cottonseed Oil, Partially Hydrogenated Palm Oil, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Trans Fats, Trans Fatty Acids, Partially Hydrogenated Canola Oil. There is a food pyramid. Use it. Most sliced bread contains sugar which is a big wtf in my book. Eat fruits, eat veggies. That's the number one thing Americans don't eat thanks to how much processed food and oils changed our taste buds. Avoid starch. Sweet potatoes over regular ones and brown rice over white rice.
Restaurants do not buy product at 'fair market value'. They buy in bulk. If you order a premium combo meal at $8, then yes, its cheaper to eat at home. If you buy a $1.50 burger and a $1.50 basic salad, its cheaper to go fast food and likely more healthy. Its when you add the bacon, cheese, mayo, salad dressing and 32oz soda that makes your fast food meal head south quickly.
An oz of ground beef is about 20 cents, and a McDonalds hamburger patty is a little less than 2 oz. A whole head of lettuce is a a dollar.
A cure for obesity may be, mandatory dialysis for everyone in grade school and again in high school. The lesson would be, you will need to do this every couple of days when you get older if you don't improve your diet and excercise.
This would be better than showing them any of the tens of millions of obese, unhealthy adults with fully functioning kidneys.
This is very ignorant advice. The only thing correct in it is eating veggies and fruits. Other than that ignore everything.
Well, actually, yes. Not right away but over time for sure. Unless you're trying to argue that the typical African-American has the same culture as someone from Nigeria.
Here is a thought experiment: How has the diet of the average American citizen today changed from the diet from the average English citizen prior to the World Wars. I believe the English ate a lot of red meat, a lot of sweets, and they put sugar in everything.
female college students in europe who visit america for summer jobs are often scared to sign up for the program because they know from prior year students they'll inevitably come back to europe noticeably fatter after their 3-4 month stay in the states. they cite the larger portions, fried processed meals, and "food everywhere, they are always eating you can't escape it" as the main factors.
Half oz of American cheese 13 cents, two 1.6 oz patties 68 cents, one white flour bun 12 cents. Total cost: 93 cents. I am sure the condiments are not worth 7 cents. It's important to consider that the servings from Fast Food are smaller than 'serving sizes'.
i think this is the main reason. there's food EVERYWHERE. at the office..at business meetings...cookies..candy..ice cream..all the snacks at home while watching tv. we are bombarded with food and calorie dense useless food at that.

That reminds me of something. I had an Afrikaan lady come to work for me a few years ago. Within 9 months after moving from South Africa to Dallas, she gained 60 pounds.
Education is key. A desire to live healthy is also important. Eating food to feel better afterwards and in the long run, as opposed to right away is the right mindset. With that said it's okay to indulge in food subcultures like BBQ pitmasters, Louisiana fried stuff, Memphis BBQ, Phili steaks, etc is fine as long as it's not in excess. DRINK GREEN SMOOTHIES. I can't stress this advice more. They're awesome, makes you full, and takes your health to a whole new level.
