The Clippers threw a curveball today. If Denver goes 2-1 (loss at Milwaukee) and Memphis and the Clippers win out (both should happen), they end up in a 3 way tie. So who takes 3rd place? Clippers because they're a division winner?

Are we sure about this? Denver has won the head-to-head against both Memphis and LAC

    yep.

weird thing is...that doesn't mean they have home court advantage.

    Multiple team tiebreaker:
    1. If applicable, division champions must be determined first.

If a multiple team tie is reduced to a two-team tie at any point using the above criteria, the two-team tie will be resolved in accordance with the existing two-team tie procedure.

    1. Results of games against each other. <Denver wins tiebreak over Memphis

So in the event of a three way tie, we play the clips?

That's the whole reason I was asking.

Looks like it. I would rather play the clips than the nuggets. Of course Memphis would be ideal, but they own no tie breakers.

Yes! We would be playing Clips. Still need to secure the #6 seed.

If the Nuggets, Clippers, and Grizzlies finish tied?

    3.) Clippers - division winners
4.) Nuggets - win the head-to-head over Grizzlies
    5.) Grizzlies - poor bears.

Yes it does, because by definition a tiebreaker only applies when teams are tied. You are thinking of the case when the 4 seed is a division champ but the 5 seed has HCA, but that only happens when the 5 seed has the better record (so no tiebreakers apply). Division champ is always guaranted a top 4 seed.

Yes. I am hoping for this outcome as well (as a Clippers fan). GS is too unpredictable and could beat anyone if they get hot for a series. Memphis is too physical and will destroy any chance in the next round. And Denver just doesn't lose at home.

Haha i don't think so but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be Denver at 3 and GS at 6 anyway.

Clippers have no chance against the Rockets.

You guys got swept last year, right? What was it...4 to Oh. or was it 4-0 or was it Oh-4? I can't remember.

Has Blake Griffin even won an NBA game yet?

Division winner always gets the highest seed, in that case yes the last highest seed of number 3 goes to the division winner, regardless of a tie breaker, in that type of situation.

Not true. Divisional winner is guaranteed top-4 seed, not top-3.

Let's say teams end the season this way: Thunder 61 wins, Spurs 60 wins, Grizzlies 57 wins, Nuggets 56 wins, and Clippers 55 wins.

    The seeds would go:

    1.) Thunder - division leader
    2.) Spurs - division leader
    3.) Grizzlies
    4.) Clippers - division leader
    5.) Nuggets

The Nuggets would be unable to secure a top-4 seed because again, division leaders are guaranteed a top-4 spot. Even though the Clippers would be the No. 4 seed, the Nuggets would actually have home-court advantage in a playoff series against them (Games 1 and 2 in Denver) because of regular season wins.

In this scenario, Rockets will face Grizzlies IF they have the 6 seed. Clips vs Nuggets but Nuggets will have HCA.

Lol chill out with the arrogance bro. We didn't make the playoffs for 3 seasons in a row, we should not be speaking about a team getting swept in the post-season.

This is a rockets fan site. We don't need to hold back talking smack to a clippers fan.

Hey, I have nothing against the Rockets but they are the best matchup for the Clippers given the available options. I think it'd be Clippers in 5 or 6.

    But 90% chance it's Clippers v Memphis round 2.
