Haha... The Rockets amnestied Scola and he gave every bit of his soul without anywhere near the drama. It's just business and the Lakers will seriously consider it. You can bet on that.

    This.

I know there will be a NASTY backlash but it's 80 MILLION. You can poo poo 10 even 20 million but 80? Kobe is 34, majority of decent NBA players are done by that age. I think he's some left but starting at 35, how much more?

The Lakers organization is valued at about 1 billion dollars. If they save $80 million (8% of the net business worth!) amnestying a player that is rehabbing and will never be the same literally no one should blame them. Also if they amnesty him I'd imagine they could make a serious run at Kevin Love as I'm pretty sure he's an LA guy. Nash, a healthier D12 and Love would be a really tough group and if I was a Laker fan I'd be pulling hard for an amnesty.

I think Kobe would want them to Amnesty him so they can build a contender and he can rejoin later and still win a ring the following year

Kobe doesn't care about money at this point, he's chasing history.

No, we have Harden who does more than enough for cheaper than Kobe.

If he's amnestied he's not getting past Dallas.

Why not amnesty him. Kobe always said he would play max 2 more years. With or without the injury he was done anyways. The Lakers might as well make the smart play and amnesty him, save some cap room to rebuild 1 year earlier and hope to convince DH to resign - amnestying Kobe would be the biggest gesture to DH. Kobe still gets paid either way, and he doesn't put the Lakers in the hole by puts on a positive media support for the Laker's actions and retires quietly - because he knows he cannot help the team any other way.

Someone like Chicago might bid something, maybe a cpl $m just to see if they could get him to play in a playoff run.
