I wouldn't say he's done. Still well within striking distance.

    He is -1 now.

Only 5 back of the leader.

This makes it tougher, but in no way does it put him out of the running.

to me this is a BS ruling. #1 the usga has representatives at every hole and if they didn't see anything wrong with the drop it should be legit. In what other sport would this ever happen?

This masters so far is a joke.

Wow, one bad break basically ruined his tournament. It would be amazing if he could recover from all this.

Pretty much. A hole that should have been a birdie instead cost him 4 strokes. He should be at -5 right now. Sucks.

Hard to believe there is not TV coverage of the early players today. I'd love to see what Guan does.

He technically broke the rule, but how stupid are some of these rules? What is the purpose of having such a specific, ridiculous rule like that? It's just really, really dumb.

I acknowledge that if it wasn't Tiger I wouldn't be b****ing about it, but this is still really moronic. It's just unfathomable that a player could hit nearly a perfect shot and essentially be penalized 4 strokes for it. The golf god's must have it out for him or something...

    LOL.

Tiger should have not said anything in his interviews. Oh well.

And how about Fred Couples? That man is 52 years old, and yet every single tournament, he is up there.

I think the problem is that the rule is designed to prevent you from getting an advantage of some sort by dropping farther back. In his interview, he said the reason he dropped it 2 yards back was so he could take the same shot and avoid the pin (which basically happened - amazing that he could hit the exact same shot again). So he did gain an advantage there.

I think without that, he'd have probably skated by - but he didn't just miss the letter of the rule, but he missed the idea behind the rule too.

Actually the problem is that the rule is to vague. Players do what Tiger did everyday on tour and don't get busted. This is the most heavily scrutinized tournament in the world and Tiger is the most highly scrutinized player in the world. He just brought the vagarity of the rule to attention of the world yesterday. The rules need to say something like, "ball must be dropped within one club length of the previous shot and not past the shot." The rule has needed to be changed for a long time but the high profile nature of this situation will finally cause it to be changed.

Yeah it pretty much is. That damn pin cost him 4 strokes on one hole. If he somehow were to still win it, it would be nothing short of a miracle...

Fair enough. Do whatever you have to do, but the rule needs to be changed. The outcry calling for him to be DQ'd/withdraw is ridiculous though. And that douche Nick Faldo is up to his typical habits......

Well, the pin cost him two strokes; his decision to try to improve his next shot cost him the other two.
