Not likely to happen and obviously it depends on the price. IMO someone will offer him the max (does anyone know what the max would be under new CBA for someone with his experience?)

At the max I would not do it.

I completely forgot teams bid on his existing contract under the amnesty system.

$80 million in a single season for a guy to rehab all year?

Kobe is almost as important a Laker as Magic. Do they let him get amnestied? the price is steep. really depends on how grateful the Lakers are to what Kobe has dont and brought to their organization.

Can't imagine the Lakers would do that to him. If they do, they're 10 times worse garbage than I ever thought before. If they don't, new respect for the team.

If it were still Jerry Buss, I would say no way in hell. But who knows how much ego the Lakers organization has right now. They might say, "We're in LA, we can take all the negative publicity if we amnesty Kobe because above all, free agents are interested in the $$$ and we have that."

Sadly your not the owner of a multi-billion dollar franchise...If the Lakers amnesty one of their HOF, they financially have too...yes while Kobe has meant the world to the Laker fanbase, the Laker mgmt will have to think long and hard about paying a player that may not play a game next season...wow...hard to imagine, but think of this as something just like Peyton Manning... They may get some insurance money back, but the Lakers will have a franchise moment...

To amnesty or not...I dont think they should, but then again, i dont have 80 mil dollars just to give away either...

I don't think so. I think they'd be more likely to amnesty Pau before Kobe.

Kobe should amnesty the Lakers first.

Now if Jeannie Buss was making the calls no way this happens, however if Jim Buss (who I think) is calling the shots, well you never know with that guy....

Why should we pick him up? So he can rehab with us?

It will never happen. Kobe will play next season.

My gut feeling he will miss a game and return the night they host the Rockets.

If the Lakers amnesty Kobe, the team picking him up would also have full Bird rights. Presumably, they'd have the inside track on re-signing him.

Amnesty him, rehab all next year and then sign him back - the only risk is soeone putting in a claim and keeping his bird rights, but no one is going to pay him max going forward so that is moot, imo.
