I think everyone at this stage knows about Kobe's injury. I will start off by saying that I would never wish an injury on another player, and I hope Kobe has a fast recovery.

That being said, how does this affect Dwight's potential move to Houston ? Does it become a no-brainer for Dwight ? Kobe was the best thing that Lakers team had going for it. Now he will be making $32 million next season and not even playing. Even if they do amnesty him, they will have to start from scratch, and Dwight might not have the patience for that.

What do you guys think ?

I don't know if Dwight has the balls to walk from L.A., even if he wants to.

Dwight wasn't gonna leave in the first place. Now this just open the door for him to be the man in Los Angeles. No chance in hell he leaves now.

Dwight leaves, Cp3 leaves. Book it. No way both of them are staying in LA.

He will surely be crucified by the LA Media, especially in the light of Kobe's injury. However, they crucify him anyways. Every time they win Kobe gets the praise and every time they lose Dwight gets the blame.

It will take some guts from him no doubt, but he should realize he's in a no-win situation with the media.

If they amnesty Kobe, sure. Otherwise he'll be the man on a bum team. I'm not sure he'll want that.

Lakers have too much money tied up on old players. I could see Dwight not wanting that. He wants a quick fix, just like in Orlando. He didn't wanna play it out he wanted out and to be in a better situation. With Kobe unable to play for a while next year, Nash falling apart and taking around 10 mill only gasol is somewhat serviceable. He's not gonna wait for trades or amnesty or contracts to expire. He knows he could be slotted into a better position and be able to contend immediately. He's not getting any younger and you know that's in the back of his mind because after his injury he knows his longevity has been effected and he's no longer the superman he thought he was.

Big chance he bolts. Even if they amnesty Kobe they are still too far into the cap to sign someone. If they use the injured player exception they could get a non taxpayers mle which is 5.8 mill. That could maybe net them jr smith, maybe Kevin Martin if he decides to take less and start, oj mayo, but non of these players could possibly vault the lakers to success if Kobe could barely get them into the playoff scene.

In other words. Welcome to houston Dwight.

I agree with the above poster. I'd say dwight wants to leave but he doesn't have the courage to.

My take is, Dwight is now the man in LA. But the Lakers roster needs a massive overhaul, and the guy is probably going to want to play for a good team when he's still in his prime.

Dwight will not have the patience to stick around and watch the Lakers rebuild. He didn't have the patience in Orlando and he won't now. I would be surprised if Morey is unable to sign him.

Even if they make the playoffs, Dwight will bolt if he values winning. Next season will be an even worse year for the Lakers.

I do however hope that he doesn't cause any locker room drama here. The team really gets along right now.

    - Dwight will join the Rockets next season.
    - Houston will win 2 back to back Championships.
    - 15 years from now when we talk about our Howard/Harden glory days, haters will say... "yeah but, Kobe was hurt."

I would prefer getting Gasol to getting Dwight.

It's Dwight's team now, and he isn't going anywhere. Not now, probably not even before.
