a ruptured achilles is a 12 month injury, that could be the end of his career, and might just keep dwight in LA.

I dont know if Dwight stays if the Lakers dont make the playoffs...

Oh and btw...if Kobe is out any length of time(bc an achilles injury is a career threatening one) there may be a chance he is amnestied? or that the Lakers get insurance on Kobe similar to what the Rockets were able to get for Yao...

I honestly think his career is over. Crappy way to end a HOF career.

Gets paid 30+ million next year.

After the game:Kobe: "I can't walk. There's just nothing there."

The fifth-leading scorer in NBA history stayed in the game until 3:06 remained despite obvious mobility limitations and two lengthy breaks to walk off an injury from early in the second half. Bryant apparently hyperextended his knee before tearing his tendon later in the half.

It's getting old. You do realize he's the HEAD COACH and should have the ****ing balls to stand up to a player, give him rest, etc. Not just ball him out for 48 minutes a game continuously, especially for a player of his age and games played season and playoffs. He's a b**** of a coach who should not even be an NBA coach for a veteran team.

He will be back -- David Beckham ruptured his Achilles at about the same age and came back as good as ever. This is a major injury no doubt, but it's not a knee injury -- he'll be running full speed in less than 6 months.

No he didn't. He was done as soon as he fell. The other time he was hurt was the knee in the other leg which he just played on like normal. But the play he fell on his own was the Achilles injury. He limped to the ft line and then went to the locker room.

Hmmm offseason will be real interesting....

    Kobe - Out
World - coming off surgery and old
Gasol - injured most of the season and old
Nash - injured most of the season and old

I don't see Howard staying... Would be Disney all over again... Just Land instead of World.

Love that he goes back in to sink 2 FTs to help them win.

Anyone see the post game press conference? Some reporter asked if this would be his last game (he was sitting below an elevated Kobe) and Kobe goes "Really? It's appropriate you would ask that question from down there..."

Sucks to see him go out like this, but he's definitely coming back for at least a farewell season. Pretty much said so in the post game

Easy to blame & pile on MDA.

Let the Mike Shanahan comparisons begin

    @NotBillWalton 33m

Mike D'Antoni let Kobe stick around and probably lost him for good. Didn't he learn anything from Mike Shanahan's mistake with RG3?

D'antoni should be fired just for his handling of Kobe alone. No player, especially if they are on the other side of 30, should have been playing the minutes Kobe has been playing. Totally irresponsible of the coach. Still don't know what the Lakers were thinking when they hired him.

I don't mean to pile on, but this is on MDA imo. He loves playing guys tons of mins until they get injured (See Amare and Lin with the NYK).

Sucks for KB24, but I'm sure he'll be back.

Yikes, but if Chauncey can come back - so can Kobe, though the timing means most of next year is toast too.

Maybe Cuban was right, time to Amnesty him.
