I would pretty much love to have any one out of Hunt, Jones, Eifert, or any of the receivers on the board at the time. Like others have said.....whoever picked Watt gets my full support in his decision.
I highly doubt we will pick up a TE in the first round. I would absolutely love them to pick up a NT in the first round. Does anyone else think S. Cody will be back if no NT is taken in the early rounds?
Picking up a NT in the first round would be an epic fail imo. I think Hankins or Williams would probably be there in the second, or they could trade up in the second to get one of them. Plenty of WR's who could be considered BPA when the Texans are on the clock. As well as the possibility of Eifert as far as TE. Jones, Carradine or Hunt DE. Arthur Brown, Manti, Alec or Minter as ILB. I will laugh if they pick a NT in the first round.
I genuinely believe they're open to multiple positions but each players raw rank would be modified by their position. So a B rated WR probably goes ahead of a B+ rated ILB.
but that would assume that we need a WR more than an ILB, which i think is very debatable. We clearly need them both, but i think those two needs are virtually equal; especially when you consider that Cushing is coming off an ACL injury, and that we don't even have a proven starter on our roster at the other ILB position. yes i know it's easier to find a good ILB later in the draft than a good WR. That might have to be the deciding factor, but i put both those positions right up there at the top of our need list ...with OLB, NT, and Safety being close behind.
Need doesn't equate to value. If we didn't sign a FB recently it's not like we'd be targeting FB round 1. I'm not sure this team values a 2-down ILB very highly. Not sure they value WR2 either. But I think public perception and pressure forces their hand and they go WR. Otherwise, historically, T makes sense here.
I'd like to see them trade down and maybe pick Cordarell Patterson or DeAndre Hopkins with a later pick. (Tavon Austin, will probably be long gone by our pick) Of course that's only possible if someone is willing to trade up for someone they know won't fall into the second round.
I don't think you would have much to go on if you are expecting Hopkins and Patterson to go much lower than 27. I actually think they will both go before that.
my fear is that Patterson and Hopkins are both off the board at #27 (obviously i think Austin will be long gone). If those guys are gone and were sitting there at #27, absent a few other prospects at other positions that i really really like, i think we should do everything we can to trade back, pick up an extra draft pick, and grab a WR like Patton or Baylor's Williams at the bottom of the 2nd, or Woods & Hunter a little higher in the 2nd.
Can't really go against anything you say here. Personally, I have studied A LOT of prospects this year. Mostly as fits for the Ravens, but Texans being my second team, I have my opinions for them too. The thing is though, as every year, there are a ton of prospects I like. I think NT is a no go for the Texans in the first, I truly believe you should go BPA when you sit in the late twenties. As far as BPA and needs, I think the options depending on who falls could be Arthur Brown as ILB (I'm a big advocate for him, best ILB imo), possibly Allen/Hopkins as WR, Carradine or Jones DE, Cyprien/Elam as safety, Eifert as TE and Fluker as RT(though I don't think he slides that far). That's players I really really like and think might be available and considered BPA at 27 for the Texans. But if you don't think some of them warrants a first round pick and a lot of them will be gone obviously, trading back is definitely a good option. Like you said, Patton, Willams at the bottom of the 2nd, Hunter and Woods a little higher are all good options. Personally I'm skeptical of Hunter and Williams, but Patton or Woods would be great imo. WR is deep this year, so I think you could easily get a contributor if you move around a little in the second. What are your thoughts on Allen? I'm very high on him and would love for him to go to the Ravens. I don't think people should judge him to much on his 40. He looks amazing on tape and wasn't 100% from his injury when he ran. Great hands, crisp route running. He looks like a stud to me. Even though I find WR's hard to vouch for, as they have a big bust ratio.
Who ever they pick first, it will probably be someone not discussed here. Most probably a lineman either offensive or defensive. They will get around to picking a receiver somewhere between 2nd and 4th round explaining how they had their eye on him all along. It might actually work out. Oh yeah, get ready for a tight end pretty early. Maybe even 2 TE's before it's over.
I think if they focus more on offense Tyler Eifert should be the Rd1 pick and on defense I'd say Kevin Minter. DeAndre Hopkins and Jesse Williams would be next on the board. Eifert and OD would be a nightmare for opposing D's in a two TE set. Minter is a hard hitting run stopper.
Thought he was the 3rd best WR when I started analyzing the draft a few months ago, and still think he's gonna be a good player. But I have concerns about his knee. I'm sure he'll get back his explosion and that his speed will improve eventually, but given that our other WR prospect in Posey is coming off an serious injury and won't be available till mid-season,and given tht Allen had a set-back in his recovery 2months ago, I don't see how he's a good pick for the Texans, especially in the 1st round. We need a guy who's healthy and can come in and play right now. I think the fact that he's still not healthy drops him out of the 1st round. I also see Allen and Woods as very similar players, so Woods might be the better choice for Houston. Basically, if we are going WR, I hope we move back because after Patterson, there's no discernable difference in quality between the next 4 or 5 WRs, with Hopkins potentially being the exception. He reminds me of a more durable Hakeem Nicks.
