Yeah, yeah, I know, another Lin thread, but I haven't seen this being discussed yet, but if this doesn't warrant its own topic, feel free to merge it, mods.

Anyway, last night, we saw a movie we've seen before but with a twist at the end... I'm talking about Lin going 5 for 14, Beverley playing well and with more energy...except this time McHale stuck with Lin in the 4th.

We all know McHale will not hesitate to sit Lin when he feels like Beverley is bringing more to the table but the reason why McHale trusted Lin last night is because Lin was still aggressive and still trying to play his game despite his bad shooting night. McHale doesn't care about his 5 for 14 shooting...ok, bad choice of words, of course any coach would care, but he knows everyone's jump-shot will inevitably have off-nights, 5 for 14 is going to happen. But a few weeks ago, if Lin wasn't feeling it, he be mentality out of the game and just stand in the corner, and that's where Beverley comes in.

Except last night, when Beverley was playing well in the 4th, McHale still put Lin back in at the 6 minute mark, and obviously McHale put Beverley back in for the final 2 defensive possessions, but I agreed with that decision because we all saw how much fits Beverley was giving Dragic with his ball pressure. ButlLike I said, McHale took note of Lin's aggressive play the whole game and trusted him in the final minute and put him back in for the final 2 offensive possessions, one when we were down by 2, which Lin drew the foul and made the game-typing free throws.

He did sit him. But only on defense which worked out because Beverly was pestering dragic really well.

This is not the first time Lin was brought in for Beverley despite the fact that Beverley was playing well....

He sat him for the final 2 defensive possessions but immediately put him back in for the final 2 offensive possessions, like I said.

Eh, I'm not sure about how much McHale's rotations earlier this year was based on Lin coming back from knee injury (remember he's only been 100% recent), plus the issues with Lin's jumpshot.

Ditto with the questionable rotations with Asik, his conditioning as a starting center, and his questionable handles and FT's.

I like the Bev/Lin combo where Lin subs in for Harden and the Bev/Lin/Harden combo but I'm convinced Lin's been seeing more consistent minutes because Parsons and Delfino are out. Once they're healthy again, I'm expecting to see more regular rotations where Bev and Lin sub in/out for each other.

Everything now is high stakes. If McHale benched Lin and ended up losing a highly winnable game, he'd get endless flak for it.

    Ib4 some tard says "Mcfail!"
I'm glad Lin stepped it up and took it all the way to the rim those last 2 possessions. Hopefully he's earning coaching staff's trust as a closer. He's so clutch when he wants it. A Lin/Harden one-two punch can be Parker/Ginobili reincarnated.

Not really. He needed Lin for offense bc Parsons and Delfino were out. That's all.

McHale doesn't just bench Lin when he's not aggressive. In fact he often benches Lin when he's very aggressive and even playing very well. For you to state McHale benches Lin because he's not aggressive is completely wrong. I would argue that McHales actually benched Lin more when he has been aggressive.

Come on MUNCONE. We all know MHale doesn't play Lin enough for you. But McHale has been playing him more in the 4th lately and last night says he was sick and played bad by his own ommission. Cut the coach some slack.

Some bug is going through the Rockets. Who got sick first? Maybe this is the best way to take down a playoff team, send in a hot girl with a cold. Lucky Royce isn't traveling with the team or we are done for sure.

still impressed though that he allowed for the lin iso in one of the critical plays, and then went with lin for the play that gave us the tie.

still says a lot that he didnt push for harden iso ball the entire time unlike the past

    Geronimo!!

(OK, imagine you just leaped out of a DC3, OK?)

Yeah, I noticed that myself. Jeremy has been picking up his game. He said himself afterwards that he thought the chemistry had improved among the players, and I think it showed. I love our backcourt players. Beverley was a great addition, truly another amazing find by Morey, and Jeremy's game has continued to improve game by game. Toss James in there, and we have a backcourt to be feared in the post-season, in my opinion. Lin has excellent size for a one and is a plus defender. Harden, though justifiably criticized for his defense, has shown flashes of good D from time to time. I think he'll pick it up in the playoffs. The guy has no physical drawback that prevents him from being a good defender. He just needs the "want to," and I think he'll find it. What he needs most of all is someone to take some of his minutes at the two so he has the energy to spare on that side of the court to go all out. I have hopes for Anderson, but if Anderson doesn't do the job, maybe we can get by with Harden, Lin, and Beverley, until Morey finds a good backup two this off-season.

I don't have a problem with the thread, OP. Can't wait for the playoffs!

    Quote from http://houston.culturemap.com/news/...n-could-end-with-houston-rockets-playoff-run/

"More than the stats, it's the Lin moments that have steadied the Rockets playoff ship, even as Harden and Parsons have gone in and out of the lineup with injuries, though. It's the cold-blooded, shot-clock-expiring 3-pointer he buried with two minutes left in Sacramento. It's the dead-on shooting in that road rout of Portland. It's the fearless drive to the rim off a scramble, the foul drawn and the two game-tying free throws against Phoenix Tuesday night."

I'm glad that McHale went offense defense with Beverly Lin - that's as active as I've seen McHale down the stretch of a game. Getting ready for the playoffs. And worked well in this case.
