Seems to have great hands and route running. No standout size ..only 6', 199 pounds or standout speed .,.ran a 4.5 but has that comfort in the field you want in slot receivers. If we want a slot type receiver, I like him...but not to stretch the field type. Then again, for our offense, for our QB strengths...maybe this is the way to go.

Woods is a top-line #2 WR prospect. We could do a lot worse. The guy i think has a chance to be a #1 WR is actually Hunter, who possess the size/speed combo you look for to absolutely dominate opposing DB's and can stretch the field.

I liked Hunter until he blew out his knee, lost all his speed and explosion. Wouldn't be mad with Hunter though.

    I favor Hopkins the most.

He ran a 4.44 at the combine though, so he's clearly back to 100%.

I too like Hopkins. I think of him as a Boldin/Roddy White type. He's actually faster than Boldin was coming out of FSU, slower than White, but his nose for the endzone and his physicality are gonna make him a solid pro. I'd be happy with Hunter, Woods, or Hopkins; however, i think there's a chance that one or all 3 are available early in the 2nd round ...which means there might be a great opportunity for the Texans to move back and still get an outstanding WR. Allen will also fall into the 2nd round with his poor pro-day showing, likely pushing one of these WRs up draft boards a few slots. It will be very interesting to see how things play out. Either way, the Texan's needs at WR and NT are well stocked in this draft and we should be able to get value at both positions on the 1st, 2nd, and/or 3rd days of the draft.

My biggest problem with Justin Hunter is his drop rate which is comparatively very poor compared to other WRs in this draft. I am searching for a reliable website that lists the WR drop rates, but havent found one just yet.

i hear ya, but my understanding is that up until last season, when he was coming off his injury, he was known for his "sure hands". Even in high school it was supposedly something that was an asset, not a liability. Granted he had a lot of drops and mental mistakes last year, but by all accounts, that's the only time he's shown that vulnerability. I wonder if part of that was just due to coming off the injury.

I still think he's worth taking a chance on. The production and the measureables scream massive upside

There are a number of WR's I'd be happy with in the 1st but here are some non-WR picks I could see happening:

    1. Kawann Short - We're only as good as our weakest link and DT is ours on defense IMO. Short has a nice first step that could fit well between Smith and Watt. Jessie Williams is a possibility as well.

    2. Tyler Eifert - With our 2 TE sets and current personnel, I can definitely see us going for a TE early on. Eirfert is a big target that could be a nice additional weapon for us.

    3. Kevin Minter - Crazy how one year makes a difference. What was once one of the best LB cores in the league has turned into a big question mark with Cushing coming an ACL tear and losing Barwin. Moving Reed inside is a possibility but don't think we can afford to lose both of our OLB.

I don't understand why people would want Hunter in the first. Maybe in the second, but he screams bust to me. Great measurables, but unreliable hands and route running. The Texans are on the verge, and shouldn't go after a project. He can become a great receiver, don't get me wrong. But a player like DeAndre Hopkins would be 10times a better pick IMO.

I'm a huge Eifert fan. I think he's gonna be an excellent TE. That said, if Rick Smith burns a 1st rounder on a 3rd string TE I'm gonna freak out. We have about 6 other major needs and there's plenty of talent in this draft that can fill those needs.

Eifert would be a ok pick with me...bc that would mean we are taking one of the best receivers left... but i would only do this if Patterson, Hopkins and Allen are off the board... which is highly unlikely...(btw i think Tavon Austin while a good player isnt what the Texans really need...too undersized for my liking)

Eifert most likely will be picked up by Atlanta...making an offensive juggernaut even more unguardable...

really love his talent ...no idea about is head. huge position of need for us. I could see us grabbing him in the 1st and moving up a few spots in the 2nd to get a Quinton Patton, or Williams from Baylor; maybe even a Hunter or Woods if they fall a little bit. Similar to when we drafted Ben Tate.

    Link

    27. Menelik Watson*
    Houston Texans (12-4)
COLLEGE: Florida State AGE: 24 HT: 6-5⅛ WT: 317 POS: OT

Scenario 1: The Texans could stand to get an upgrade over Derek Newton at right tackle, and Watson's athleticism and movement skills would be a perfect fit in their zone-blocking scheme.

Scenario 2: If offensive line isn't the target area here, then Houston could look for a complementary weapon for WR Andre Johnson. Fits could include Keenan Allen, Clemson's DeAndre Hopkins or USC's Robert Woods.

Scenario 3: Defensive line could also be a consideration, and Georgia's Johnathan Jenkins has the versatility to line up at nose tackle or the 5-technique and provide depth and flexibility.

Stats and Info: Johnson's 158 targets made up 58.1 percent of the Texans' pass attempts to wide receivers, the highest percentage for an individual receiver in the league. Hopkins caught 10 touchdowns on passes thrown 20 yards or longer in 2012, tied with West Virginia's Stedman Bailey for most in the FBS.

We just resigned Ryan Harris. I don't feel like we will draft a tackle in the first round.

Did anyone hear John Mclain on 610? If so can you post a brief summary of the interview? Heard he talked about the Texans not finished making moves this offseason. Wonder if he stated any names we are targeting?

It kind of sucks that Ravens are about to sign Rolando Mcclain, Patriots
just resinged Julian Edelman and also tendered an offer sheets for Emmanuel
    Sanders?

It just seems the Patriots are again loading up there WR core ( and some even have
them taking WR in the First)

While the Texans keep ignoring the WR position.. We need a veteran WR. Not many
out there anymore (Maybe a tender to Denario Alexander) not sure how much that would cost?

Alexander has an original round tender, so he wouldn't cost anything as he was an undrafted free agent. He would be a great pickup, I'm surprised he hasn't garnered more interest. He has legit #1 potential. I guess everybody is scared off by his injury history.

Yea i seen some reports that some teams are expressing interest, but dont
want to waste their time if Charges will match offer??

Hope the Texans are one of those Teams....
