I saw something in the news that said that the weapon was an Exacto knife. I think it bears remembering that an Exacto knife's intended use is not to kill people whereas a gun's purpose is.

Depends on how good a shot the bad guy is. It would appear that exacto knives are not too deadly, probalby can set the ban limits to greater than 1" blades.
I know an exacto blade is not a real knife, but if someone is coming at me with that, then it is justifiable self defense. Same thing is if you respond with a legal 4 inch defense blade against the criminal, and he dies... Btw if anyone can clarify the knife carry laws I would appreciate it. I know generally 4 inch blade not in plain sight is permitted but can that be double edged like the de facto?
