A conventional war with N. Korea might not be so quick. They have a one million man army. The army is probably the only part of that society that receives adequate nutrition.

I agree. What do you guys think should we just wait and hope nothing happens and keep on negotiating or is it time to attack?

Nope. I think someone confirmed even the army doesn't get fed well.

So you think a starving dog doesn't bite? I don't want American troops dealing with soldiers that are prepared to fight in worse circumstances than the Vietcong!

Hrmmm. I may be in Seoul at the end of the month for business. Not sure how I feel about it yet.

I think it depends on the position in the army, and I thought they still got fed better than the general populace.

With our current relations with China, it is not smart for us to throw the first punch. We have to sit and wait for them to make the first move on us, so we are not ridiculed by China and other allies.

My understanding is that our intel just plain sucks when it comes to DPRK. One intelligence official joked that Dennis Rodman had better intel than the US Government at this point.

That's no knock on our intel -- it's just incredibly closed off, secretive and f-ed up. It's such a throw back to a nearly medieval mentality.

China will do more to keep N. Korea from throwing the first punch than anything the U.S. can do. The reason is that China knows that once N. Korea does that, they will fall. That will send millions of starving immigrants into their nation and severely hurt their economy.

True, I remember hearing though that the common footsoldier was still forced to scavenge for food on top of performing his duties for the military.

I honestly think China is going to gun down refugees en masse to prevent that. China's #1 goal for the past few decades has been their economy.

You'll need a bit more of a source than "I think someone confirmed..."

The army isn't well fed, but they are fed enough to fight.

I'll find it later. Need to remember where I read that.

And you think gunning down refugees will be good for their economy? I don't think the world would take kindly to that type of behavior.

I think what he was trying to say is China wouldn't allow millions of refugees to enter their country, i believe most of the population would head toward South Korea.

There will be no refugee. Actually, the 2 million Chinese Koreans might enter NK's border to join the war.

There is a reason that China could not conquer Korea in 2000 years. Koreans are Muslim times 10 when talking about nationalism.

A war with Koreans will always be ugly.

    What. The. Frack.

You're telling me that Korean nationalism is so strong that even when North Korea, a failed state, burns under American power that they aren't going to flee in droves even as their economy collapses? Sure, that would be nice, but that sure isn't going to happen.

By the way, about your awesome Korean nationalism? The Chinese may not have conquered Korea in 2000 years, but we did it in 5.

Let me tell you, the Korean people were never conquered.

You made them slaves, burned their homes, banned their language, destroyed their culture, changed their last names, chained them, jailed them, but you never won anything on that land unless you are proud of killing, robbing or raping.

You did it in 5? did what? to prove your inhuman nature? what an accomplishment!
