what do you guys say to get the discount? i called and said I wanted to cancel but they just said okay and was going to process it. I just hanged up though lol
Call multiple times. I think it took me three times before I was able to get some nice lady in St. Louis who gave me the discount with U-Verse. When they did say "Ok, let me transfer you to the cancellation department" I was all FAIL and I hung up too.
When they transfer you to the cancellation department, dont hang up. The cancellation department is like retention - they can offer discounts as well, sometimes even more than the regular customer care reps. Also, if the cancellation department says they can't do anything, don't hang up either...say OK...cancel the service but future date it. Set the cancellation to 3 weeks from today. This way you can see if they will give in and even if they put in the cancellation, since its future dated you can call back and cancel the cancellation. I did this with Dish...
I've thought about calling and asking if they can deactivate until they carry CSN. Has anyone tried anything like this? That way maybe they would still offer heavy discounts, and if they do actually cancel it perhaps they wouldn't force you to turn in the equipment and have to re-install it again at a future date. I have Uverse btw.
I have Direct TV and got a discount after I asked about information on my contract. Basically I wanted to know what type of fees I'd be hit with if I were to cancel my service which resulted in a transfer to a different department (think they called it their contracts department which I guess is a better name than cancellations). After they confirmed I wouldn't be on the hook for any charges they asked me if I was thinking about terminating my service. I said yes and explained the CSN situation and they said they would lower my bill by $20 a month but in no way would that put me on the hook for any contract extension. Even with the lower bill I'm leaning towards switching. I just hate doing it because it means those jerks win but I don't see any resolution any time soon.
see, I don't switch for a completely different reason. I've made the call at least four times to Comcast and the nickel and dime the service soooooo much, that my bill would be double for comparable service. Not only that, they are continually confused. On attempt #2, they told me they didn't have it in my area, even though they are continually soliciting me. On call #3, I got randomly disconnected. And on every call, I get transfered several times and have to restate the same information to each person - which just makes me pissy (probably the reason for the 'random' disconnect) Love the channel. Want the channel. Just want it on Uverse.
just called a couple times and she doesn't even know the deal with CSN and ATT (i guess i should say non deal), guess i'll keep trying. Apparently I'm on a contract, does that hurt my chance for a discount?
I've never had Comcast but I did have Time Warner and they stunk. Every other months I was swapping out boxes cause mine would crash and calling customer service was an adventure but not in a good way. Direct TV on the other hand has been the exact opposite. Fantastic customer service and never any service issues. So I'm like you, I want the channel but don't want to have to switch to get it.
Yes. If you're locked in with them why would they give a discount? If you can't cancel their service you have no options.
Interestingly, given my previous post, I arrived at home today with an Xfinity rep knocking at my door. He's replicated the package I get with Uverse but with 50MB down instead of 18Mb and he's locking the pricing in for 2 years at a lower price than I'd negotiated with Uverse at the beginning of the season. bye bye Uverse. Hello CSN
What's the point of switching now if you haven't switched already? The Rockets regular season is almost over and you'll be able to see most if not all of the playoff games on TNT/ESPN. The Astros are the laughing stock of the league so I'll assume you aren't switching because of them.
'CSN Houston declines offer by Suddenlink' Suddenlink Communications made a new offer Monday to pick up Comcast SportsNet Houston for its Houston-area subscribers, but its limited terms prompted network officials to decline the deal. Monday’s exchange of statements was a rare public moment in the ongoing talks between the network, owned by the Rockets, Astros and NBC Sports Group, and major providers, including Suddenlink, Time Warner Cable, DirecTV, Dish Network and AT&T U-verse, that have been unable to reach terms on carriage agreements. “We’re committed to providing the best service and programming to our customers, and this includes providing access to home team sporting events,” officials with Suddenlink, which services the Kingwood area in Houston and dozens of markets across the state, said in a statement. “For that reason, we’ve offered to make Comcast SportsNet (CSN) Houston available to customers in and around the Houston area, on a dedicated package of sports channels, at the per-customer price established by CSN Houston’s owners.” As expected, CSN Houston officials declined the offer late Monday afternoon. “While we are pleased to see that Suddenlink is responding to the demand for CSN Houston, an offer to be placed on a limited tier that would restrict the channel’s availability among Houston area fans of the Astros, Rockets and Dynamo is not consistent with Suddenlink’s treatment of other regional sports networks, including Fox Sports Southwest,” CSN Houston president and general manager Matt Hutchings said in a statement. “This offer is also not consistent with the high demand for live event programming, especially for a channel that offers three Houston-based professional teams.” No major regional sports network is offered on a dedicated sports tier in its home market, so CSNH’s rejection of the Suddenlink offer was expected. Sports tiers are available at an extra fee and generally are subscribed to by a small fraction of a provider’s total audience. CSN Houston is seeking distribution similar to those that carriers have with all other RSNs, including Fox Sports Southwest, which call for carriage on basic or expanded basic service.
Gotta side with CSN on this Suddenlink thing. I hate Comcast but CSN Houston belongs on basic tier for every cable system in Houston.
Don't quite understand the responses. I'm a DirecTV subscriber and I refuse to switch. I've gotten discounts based on this problem. I'm as pissed as anyone. But, I'll still be pissed if we all end up having to pay extra to have a sports package just to get Rockets games (I refuse to watch the crap the Astros claim is baseball). Bottom line is I want CSN to ask a reasonable price per customer and I want DirecTV to stop demanding that this channel cost extra for subscribers via a higher package. All that said, I don't see anything good coming anytime soon.
