Also, Nic Batum, who was great in the early games, is injured.

patterson might need off-season surgery. he's untradeable if that happens. the rockets have bigger plans come draft/free agency.

CH, will still give you major kudos for the many years of funny and good posts. But you're wrong on this. Let it end (unless you're just intentionally trolling, in which case I guess keep laughing). But no matter how you slice it, although the schedule is a factor, we're still 14-7 since the trade. Before, with PPat, over the entire period so as not to bias the portion when he was hurt, we were barely above .500. You're major concern is we were jeopardizing our playoff chances. We didn't. We're at 99% now, fighting for the 6th spot. We took a little risk with the trade, yes, but it was the difference between a 96% at the time and a 92% after the trade, while still getting potential upside. PPat was gone next year. Letting him go did not seriously hurt our playoff chances at the time, and it hindsight it definitely has not hurt our chances. It also let us see what we have in Smith, DMO and Jones as well as Robinson, instead of having them stuck behind PPat who was decent but not great. If any of those three develop it opens up additional flexibility for the Rockets to get a second star player.

Also, you can't get down on Robinson so soon. He was in the equivalent of siberia. Do not discount the ability of the rockets to send a rookie to the d-league and develop them slowly and get them developed. The Rockets don't have time to develop Robinson now; that will wait until the offseason. Give him at least the next year before you declare him bust. During his first year, Morris did jack and couldn't get time. He got an early second rounder now. Smith has gotten better. Jones has gotten better. Morris got better. There's a decent chance, with development, that Robinson will too. There's high bust high upside potential here. But that's the point. The Rockets don't want players with ceilings that are not star level. They want those that can become a star because they need only one of the 4 to fulfill his potential for them to have a home run. PPat was a single or double guy at a position where there were 4 bust/potential home run hitters behind him. The trade was a risk (Morey admitted it, and clearly McHale agreed) but it was a carefully considered one. Give morey the benefit of the doubt. He has generally proven dependable.

Hated the trade the day it was made, hate it still. Patterson was a solid starter. T-Rob and D-Mo don't even look like rotation players.

Bumpgasm. I actually laughed at Dmo today. It gets to the point where you can't even get angry anymore. Russel Crow has let us down.

The whole team looked bad pretty much. Harden included. Not gonna put this one on the PFs or the trade-- just a challenging situation. B2B at altitude against a rested and still good Denver team. Write this game off and move on. 2-1 on the road trip is at least holding serve.

Trob can not play, if you can not hit a free throw, then you need to stay glued to the bench.

Be a professional, practice shooting free throws.

Trob should be in the D-league.

Give the guy time. By all accounts hes a solid kid with a great work ethic. I'm sure he will improve.

But right now, yeah. He shouldn't play. But I guess the same could be said about D-Mo too.

Just want to clarify one thing because I saw a lot of people were making the same mistake again and again in this thread. Actually Patterson's only a 3rd year player this season so his 4-year rookie contract won't run out until NEXT summer, not this coming summer.

Also in theory if Patterson did get extended to a 3 year/15 million contract in the summer of 2014, it also it would not be that much more expensive than Robinson since Robinson was a #5 pick and got a high rookie contract to begin with.

    Robinson: 2012/13 3.3m 2013/14 3.5m 2014/15 3.6m (team option) 2015/16 4.6m (team option) 2016/17 6.1m (qualifying offer)

    Patterson: 2012/13 2.0m 2013/14 3.1m 2014/15 4.3m (qualifying offer)

See, Robinson actually gets paid more than Patterson THIS season and so will NEXT season and probably wouldn't be cheaper than Patterson except maybe a couple millions in 2014/15 for the length of his whole rookie contract.

Something similar was discussed way before the TRob trade:

Is the dleague really the best way to progress rookies?

He is just as raw today as the day he was drafted.

Anyone who thinks the Rockets wouldn't be better RIGHT NOW with Patterson still on the team is not very bright. I don't understand why this is even a question. As the youngest (or one of) team in the league, the Rockets were going to improve more than any other team as the season wore on no matter what. This improvement would have only been greater with Patterson there to solidify the weak PF position. If you think having a new starter every couple of weeks b/c the previous guy sucked is actually better for a team, which has been the case since Patterson left, I don't know how I can help you.

Well judging by your basketball theory, then prime Ben Wallace, and prime Shaw should be benched because tehy can't hit their freethrows either.

DD screwed DMO with his vote of confidence now DD has just blessed TRob. Now that it's official that DD hates TRob's game expect him to have a break out year (next year) or playoffs.

Injury update – Forward Patrick Patterson did not play for the first time since joining the Kings in February.

"His hand is starting to bother him a great deal, and he had a little bit of a back spasm going on as well," Smart said.

Patterson hurt his hand during a workout two weeks ago.

The hand might explain his recent shooting struggles. Patterson is a combined 4 of 17 in his past three games.

D League is over except for playoffs. On FTs, it may be better for him to work with Houston coaches.

Coach Smart: "Damn it, Pat. Didn't your coaches in Houston teach you always to use your non-shooting hand when performing repetitive motions during the season?"
