I never said he couldn't do it. he can. he is just an ******* for doing it.

How much do you think this homeless man pays in taxes just out of curiosity? If you loaned someone $100 bucks and they went to the casino with it, how would you feel? This man lives off the generosity of others and gambles with that generosity. It makes him an inconsiderate *******.

He is 'being dumb' with others' money. That makes him an *******. You say you despise the lottery but are okay with people playing the lotto with money you earned (I assume u pay taxes)?
None. But if you aren't paying taxes then you are living off others' and therefore have no moral justification to be gambling.

    nobody.....

    > Lives in a furnished apt.
    > Finds an apt. that offers free water and electricity
    > Meh, he's been homeless for a long time. He'll know what to do with cleanliness.

    Problem solved!

And if all else fails, he can just bring his tent into this new apt. and continue to sleep in it. At least nature isn't an enemy anymore.

    Yeah, it is politics.

But go ahead, take every opportunity to assert your position one rung above this guy on the ladder of "success." That is your reward for doing your part to keep everyone where they are - the tippy top are still at the very tippy top, those at the bottom are still on the bottom, and you're still doing your part to keep things that way. Please continue congratulating yourself for your major accomplishment. And please continue to do so publicly on the internet. You're helping your cause.

what's so bad about the lottery? in his case, he had nothing to lose anyway. seems like a pretty cool guy.

Where did I accuse you of saying he couldn't do it? My point was your anger about it makes you a bigger jerk than you say he is.

To the rest of your post, get some counseling. Calm down. Look, I'm hard core anti-lottery but this isn't something to get ticked off at. The lottery is here for anyone who wants it (even the homeless) and the irony with this guy is actually humorous.

Glad you asked. I have given money to guys and found out later it was blown. My reaction was I did my part and they didn't do theirs. Lesson learned. But I didn't get angry. What good would that do? You just move on and give thanks that addiction to alcohol/drugs/gambling, mental illness or pathetic laziness isn't a personal demon you have to battle.

He should pick himself up from his bootstraps, get a job, and start saving instead of wasting whatever he has on the lottery.

MY anger is justified as someone is wasting money I worked for that I could of spent on other things (i.e. feeding starving kids in Africa or curing cancer).

As for you telling me to 'go get counseling' and to 'calm down'; you are the one insulting another poster. Not me.

What if you were trying to save to send your kids to a nice school? Then would you be so nonchalant about someone gambling with this money you gave them? Being angry over someone wasting your earned money is completely rational.

Also you are making no arguments that his actions are moral, just that I am a 'jerk' for being upset over it.

    Agreed

Why would rich people play the lottery? Better yet, do rich folks even visit convenience stores?

It didn't say anything in the article about him being on welfare.
So a homeless man goes into a convenience store to buy something and why he's there he buys a $1.00 lotto ticket and it winds up being a winning ticket and in you're opinion he's an "*******"?

The story does say that this "*******" is a "very very nice guy" and "he's one of the sweetest people I've ever met" and "this couldn't have happened to a nicer guy". And this "*******" is going to give away some of his winnings to other homeless people he knows and you're pissed off about this and call him an "*******"?

    Lighten up Francis.

That's a pretty ignorant assumption on your part. You have no idea if he has a job or where he gets his money from. Lots of homeless people do have jobs. And this guy seems to be homeless by choice.

Interesting. That's also true of your own income that is spent on anything that is not necessary. Does that make you an ******* for going to see movies or paying for internet so you can post on Clutchfans? After all, you could be helping feed starving kids in Africa instead of posting here. That seems kind of *******-ish on your part.

If you give someone money, you give it to them to do what they want with it. If you only want them to buy food, you should give them food instead. If you have expectations of the person you are giving to, then you're missing the entire point of charity.

Once you give someone money, it is theirs to do with how they want. Case closed.
