I'm looking for 10-15% for speed guys and about 20% for the power guys. Those percentages trend upward as they progress, so they need to get a handle on it at that level.

Not that much if the player is legitimate. There is an adjustment period, but the successful ones return to their lower level norm. If they are at 10%, that generally means they need to be moved up. Of course, the best players generally are 15-20% in the minors and majors.

Austin Wates led off CC's game with a single. Haven't had a hit since going into the top of the 7th. Springer and Santana have both struckout twice.

Quad Cities scored 3 in the 8th to take a 4-1 lead over Kane County. The River hit a 2-run double in the inning.

    That is fantastic!!

I also like the fact that McCullers had 8 ground outs and no fly outs

Preston Tucker with a 2-run shot for Lancaster.

Unfortunately, Brady Rodgers reached the 75-pitch limit in the 4th, as High Desert drove him off. Theron Geith is in.

Tyler Heineman is 4-4 in catching base stealers so far.

Looks like Mike Foltynewicz hit 100 at some point last night. Judging from his line, he was probably too amped.

You missed Enrique Hernandez 10th-youngest in Texas League

If they continue their success how high do you guys think they make it on top 100 list? McCullers was already ranked 50 on baseball America and there was one list that had Tropeano like 104.

Man he really got a big boost in his fastball speed. I'm still wondering if it took him a while to get his velocity back after getting our of the cold weather in Illinois. I believe he was in the mid 90s pre drafty

If McCullers were to dominate the Midwest League... I'd say he could be a top 35 guy.

    Friday Stories

    Let's play 2 in Memphis!

Another big inning gives Quad Cities a win. Also, some top pitching prospect made his debut.

    Recap

OKC split a doubleheader with Memphis, losing game 1 9-0 and winning game 2 8-7.

In the 1st game, Jordan Lyles ran into trouble in the 5th, which turned out to be an absolute disaster for the Redhawks, as Kevin Chapman and C.J. (I suppose that's what we're calling him now, as opposed to Chuckie) Fick combined on an epic fail. 3 inherited runners were charged to Lyles (1 from Fick). I don't even know what happened. It was just terrible. Lyles went 4 1/3 innings (74 pitches) and allowed 4 runs on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2. Chapman failed to record an out, allowing 2 runs on 1 hit (not a homer) and walking 1. Fick got the last 2 outs in the 5th, but not before allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and walking 2. Josh Zeid worked around a walk in the 6th to strike out the side. Offensively, Brandon Laird went 2-3.

In game 2, Laird drilled a 2-run homer (1) in the 3rd, which was part of a 4-run inning that gave the Redhawks a 5-1 lead. He also had 2 sac flies that scored Robbie Grossman both times. Speaking of Grossman, he went 1-3 with an RBI single, an RBI groundout, scored twice, stole a base, and walked. Trevor Crowe also had 2 RBI; one on a force play and one in which an error allowed him to reach base safely. By the way, the Redhawks only struck out twice in game 2, while they drew 7 walks.

Pitching-wise, Paul Clemens pitched his requisite 5 innings (66 pitches, 45 strikes), allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and fanning 3. However, the Redbirds mounted a furious 7th-inning rally as they tagged Wes Musick for 4. Musick couldn't quite get the final out, allowing 4 hits and a walk. Jose Valdez stopped the bleeding, but it was an adventure getting that final out for him too. He allowed a 2-run single to J.R. Towles to tag Musick with 2 runs, then walked Jamie Romak. However, he got Jermaine Curtis to fly out to Crowe to end the game.

Corpus was held to 1 hit in a 2-0 loss to Springfield. Austin Wates' 1st-inning single was it. They did draw 6 walks, but they also struck out 13 times. George Springer, Domingo Santana, Jonathan Meyer, and Erik Castro all had hat tricks. Santana also threw a Cardinal out at home. Jio Mier had the other strikeout. Nick Tropeano allowed a solo shot to Nick Swauger in the 2nd for his only run allowed. He allowed 2 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 5 in his 5 innings (64 pitches, 39 strikes). Bobby Doran came on and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 in his 3 innings. Andrew Robinson worked around a walk and a hit to strike out 2 in the 9th.

Lancaster took a 3-1 lead over High Desert after the 3rd, and then the Mavericks put up 5 in the 4th on the way to a 7-3 Jethawks loss. Preston Tucker's 2-run homer (1) in the 3rd were the last runs scored by the Jethawks. Matt Duffy had an RBI single in the 2nd. They walked once and struck out 11 times. The Mavs jumped on Brady Rodgers, who reached the 75-pitch limit after 3 2/3 innings. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits (2-run homer), walked 3, and struck out 5. Theron Geith served as the bridge for 1 1/3, and he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and walked 1. Chris Devenski, Rodgers' partner, allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 in 3 innings. Jonas Dufek walked 1 and struck out 1 in the 9th.

Quad Cities got a fine performance from Lance McCullers in a 4-1 win over Kane County. McCullers threw 5 shutout innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 5. Dan Minor came on to piggyback and allowed a run on 5 hits in 2 1/3 without walking or striking out anyone. Kyle Hallock retired all 3 batters he faced (2 outs in the 8th and the 1st of the 9th), striking out 2. John Neely finished it out, allowing a hit and a walk. Rio Ruiz, Ariel Ovando, and Roberto Peña all went 2-4 with doubles. Ovando scored the first run of the game in the 2nd on an error that also allowed Jordan Scott to reach base safely. In the 7th, he threw out Rock Shoulders at 3rd, who had hit the game-tying RBI double. Joe Sclafani scored the go-ahead run on another Cougars error after drawing a walk to lead off the 8th. The River would then smack a 2-run double to provide the separation the River Bandits needed.

    Three Stars

    3.

    [IMG] [IMG]

Rio Ruiz, 3B, and Ariel Ovando, RF, Quad Cities
    Ruiz: 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI
    Ovando: 2-4, 2B, R, outfield assist

    The River delivered the game-winner.

I still believe in Ovando, and I think repeating Greeneville could turn out to be a great decision for his long-term development.

    2.

    Brandon Laird, 3B, Oklahoma City
    Doubleheader: 3-5, HR (1), 4 RBI

So, when should he be in Houston?

    1.

    Lance McCullers, RHP, Quad Cities
    5 IP, 4 H, 5 K

Impressive debut. He got stronger as the game progressed, and he kept the ball down as well.

    Honorable Mentions

    Preston Tucker, OF, Lancaster
    Nick Tropeano, P, Corpus Christi
    Josh Zeid, P, Oklahoma City

    Goats

    [IMG] [IMG]

    Kevin Chapman and C.J. Fick

Insert wheels fall off pic here.

Dishonorable mentions go to George Springer, Domingo Santana, Erik Castro, and Jonathan Meyer for hat tricks.

I think xcrunner's idea to track the strikeout totals in the minors is an excellent idea. So, here's where they stand after 2 games:

    OKC: 11 BB, 10 K

    Corpus: 6 BB, 19 K

    Springer- 5
    Castro- 4
    Santana- 3
    Meyer- 3

    Lancaster: 8 BB, 15 K

    Fontana- 2
    DeShields- 2
    Meredith- 1
    Tucker, Aplin, Heineman- 0

    Quad Cities: 8 BB, 20 K

    Hernandez- 4
    Correa- 3
    Ovando- 3
    Joyce- 2
    Ruiz- 1

    Looking Ahead

OKC and Memphis play game 3 of their series at 6:05. Jarred Cosart and Dallas Keuchel take on Seth Maness.

Corpus will look to get their bats going again as they'll be getting together with Springfield again at 7:05 tonight. Asher Wojciechowski and David Martinez face Anthony Ferrara.

Tyson Perez and David Rollins take the hill for Lancaster against High Desert, who will go with TBD at 7 Pacific.

Colton Cain and Mike Hauschild will go for Quad Cities as they take on Kane County in game 3 at 1. The Cougars will go with Jose Arias.

Here's the post with all the audio links, if you're wanting to listen to the FutureStros.
