Even if you did a clean bulk there's a chance you can pack on some fat. Everyone is different so what works for a bodybuilder differs to a runner differs to a average joe just trying to lose weight. Adjust your macros P/F/C accordingly to your lifestyle and watch your calories. More so if you're just trying to lose weight. It's trial and error really. I find it very easy to overeat on a keto diet unless keto indeed curb your appetite causing you to feel energized and eat less.
mostly true. Implies that someone who takes in more calories and doesn't work out can't lose fat... ill be back tomorrow
+1. At the end of the day, calories do matter. Maybe the low carb person doesn't want to acknowledge that..but somehow they are staying within X% of their body's need. I think our bodies are smart enough to adjust to a certain variance in daily calorie intake. It's not like if you need 1400 cals a day and you eat 1420..OMG YOU'RE GETTING FAT. I think depending on your genetics your body will upshift to burn off excess calories to a certain extent. Look at all the points of error in going by calories..1. how do you know what you REALLY need? 2. how do you know the food you're eating is EXACTLY what you think it is? I do go by calories..and it's just a # to help somewhat quantify the food I am eating daily. So I am not going overboard.
Are there sites with just meal plans? I'm too lazy to read about what i'm doing. Just tell me 3 easy meals every day and i'm good. I won't get bored of eating the same thing every day either. Otherwise i'll just continue eating like 5 meals a day and hoping on over to Jack n the Box value menu.
Regarding the calorie thing, it's not always true. I consume around 3,000 calories per day at the moment and work out lightly 3 times a week and have a desk job. I've lost weight (5lbs in 12 days), and it is not water weight since I'm chugging water, lemonade and green tea all day. I'm consuming tons of protein and an insane amount of green leafy vegetables. My waist has gone down a size. Yesterday I had a typical day: Breakfast was a fried omelette with cheese and vegetables + a peanut butter protein shake. 4 shish kebabs, 12 morcels of grilled chicken and large green salad for lunch. Considering my BMR and my activity level at the moment, I shouldn't even be consuming that much for lunch AND dinner combined. I had a giant ribeye with mushrooms for dinner with some grilled halloumi cheese on the side. Also had an atkins bar after dinner. I estimate that I'm consuming about 10-15g net carbs a day. Contrary to popular belief, this diet does not hinge on the idea that not being able to eat carbs = not many food options = reduced calorie intake. This diet just works because of the make up of what you're eating. I'm not even that fat, another 7-8lbs my stomach will be flat. There is no other rational explanation for why I am losing a waist size given I'm likely eating 1,000 calories/day over what should be my target if I were to follow a caloric deficit diet which would have me losing 2-3lbs a week with light exercise. There's also no evidence that this diet will make you gain more weight afterwards. All diets have a bounce back effect, and it is mental. It has nothing to do with how you diet. You can cushion the bounce back by increasing your metabolism (add muscle, eat smaller varied meals, exercise) but there is nothing that stops you from doing that on atkins.
^^ awesome Mathloom! Keep it up! Also, a supplement that can help with the "bounce-back effect" is alpha-lipoic acid. Non-technically speaking it kills off the genes that tell your body what your weight should be, and makes it so that you can adjust to a new range of norm. If you feel stuck at a certain body fat %, and want to lose more body fat, I recommend alpha-lipoic acid. Dairy exhibits a high insulin response and can lead to fat gain. If you're solely focused on body fat %, any amount of dairy can greatly hinder your progress. Otherwise, dairy can be healthy in some forms, i.e. yogurt. Furthermore, some documentaries will argue there is a correlation between dairy and a multitude of serious diseases. I have to side on the argument that cow's milk is in no way good for you. Whoever made that up is an arsehole. I believe that dairy, in general, [based on research] affects people in different ways. Depends on your body. I tend to stay away from dairy just to be safe, except Saturdays... on Saturday I eat everything this world has to offer; it's what keeps my metabolism up and my diet sustainable.
how to count calories Protein: 4 calories per gram Carbs: 4 calories per gram Fat: 9 calories per gram This is why calories are not all equal. 1000 calories from carbs and 1000 calories from protein will offer completely different results lol. I don't think I need to go into any further detail... but if so, just ask
Are diet sodas bad for you? I drink 1-2 diet cokes a day at work. I am hoping some folks smarter than I can help me out.
Are you talking about lactose (sugar), or dairy in general? I've never heard of cream/butter/cheese exhibiting a high insulin response.
Sounds good. You're eating a lot of whole/natural foods. The reason why your plan works so effectively in losing weight is not just limiting carbs but more importantly I don't see any sugar carbs. Those will wreck any good diet/plan.
^^This person put it best so I'm just quoting them. Clarified butter, ghee, has minimal dairy and can be considered better for a weight-loss diet than regular butter. I try to stay away from that as well though. Some dairy products aren't as bad as others. I wouldn't keep you from eating unflavored yogurt. Also, I don't know if you've ever heard of drinking milk as a remedy to poisons. Dairy can help slow down absorption in the body so that the poison isn't as effective. However, it's the same concept with nutrients. For example, if you drink milk while eating a salad, you keep your body from absorbing all the nutrients from that salad. If I'm focused on fat% I stay away from all sugars including fruit, but if I focus on health, I throw fruit back in the mix [with limitations]
Health-wise you are really hurting yourself. I would much much rather you stick to regular sodas than rely on diet drinks. Please don't hesitate to ask why if you're curious. I'm a piss-poor writer though so I may grab some quotes that I agree with online. I've convinced myself that soda water is just as good, haha. Disclaimer: I don't just aimlessly grab quotes online. I look for articles that resonate with my diet habits and iterate concepts I agree with. There are many many clashing arguments online. I have taken much time to read them and test them out. Over time I have chosen what to agree with as well as developed my own theories... MEANING I don't know everything...but I try to.
Thank you very much for the response pkmagas. If you don't mind, I'd love to find out more on this, and why you feel this way. I tried doing a little research online too, and as you said, there are plenty of conflicting information out there, so I would greatly appreciate a little more insight on this matter. Thank you in advance!
The argument is that primitive man would not have had regular access to dairy. I will say this though .... If you eat paleo other than dairy you should be in great shape.
Also, if anybody is using Stevia as a sweetener, please read the ingredients before you buy it. Even if it says pure Stevia, just confirm the ingredients. It often isn't just Stevia leaf. My diet hardly consists of anything sweet and OHMYGOD does everything taste better, lol. Now when I eat cakes and stuff [on Saturdays] it is too damn sweet. A friggin apple tastes like sweet dessert lol. Kale [among other vegetables] actually has flavor now, not just cardboard, lol.
