No store anywhere near me has one and they don't ship.

In fact no store in Houston has them available

It would be great, especially for that price. Just be aware, it's a refurb, and probably won't be in brand new condition.

Also, the Fire has no camera (probably not a huge deal for kids).

The ONLY thing which would maybe make you pause is the fact that there are no dedicated volume buttons on it. This means, if you want to change the volume on anything the kids may be doing, it's not as simple as just pressing up or down on the volume buttons, like pretty much every other piece of electronics ever made that makes sound.

No, the geniuses at Amazon decided to make volume a function of the touch-screen, and that means you have to pause what you are doing, bring up a menu, and then slide the volume marker to the left or the right on the screen.

It works, but it's a pain in the butt, and it is never something you can do quickly and easily, under the best of circumstances, but even moreso for a 6-year old.

And I only mention it because kids will be wanting to watch their movies, or play the games, and those make noise, and so when you inevitably have to say 'Turn that down!', it's not as easy as just pressing the volume buttons.

Dunno if that's a deal breaker, but it is surely an annoyance.

Dang that sold fast. I bought one that is going to the Willowbrook location. When I purchased about 45 mins ago almost all Houston stores were available.
