http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id...-game-become-highly-efficient-scoring-machine Great read. I thought this was interesting: 1) In James's last season in Cleveland his shot chart resembles that of a point guard. His clusters of shooting activity are similar to those of Kyrie Irving or Chris Paul. 2) In his first year in a Heat uniform, James took fewer 3s and was much more active in the paint, but he was still spending a lot of time away from the basket. 3) James's shot selection in the 2011-12 campaign was completely different, and completely dominant. For the first time in his career, his game was heavily asymmetric. James spent a lot more time on the left side of the court than the right, especially down on the left block, a spot that he now refers to as his "sweet spot." Out of curiosity, I pulled up Harden's shot selection and compared them to CP3 and Kyrie....shockingly, 34% of Harden's attempts are above the break 3s, compared to 24% and 23% for CP3 and Kyrie, respectively. Lin attempts 22% of his shots above the break. For what it's worth, both Harden (35%) and Lin (41%) attack the rim at a much higher rate than CP3 (19%) and Kyrie (26%). While this team has been fun to watch over the season, does anyone else think that our offense needs to evolve if we want to become more than a pretender? http://stats.nba.com/leaguePlayerShots.html?DistanceRange=By Zone&rowsPerPage=100&pageNo=4
Lebron's best year was 08-09. He average 38-8-8. He just didn't win because the team around him wasn't as good. Now that he has won people want to say how much he has improved. The truth is the team around him just got a lot better.
He averaged 38-8-8 against the magic in ECF. That entire season and playoffs he was playing out of his mind. He averaged 35-8-9 for the entire playoffs. His per that year was 31.7. For comparison it is 31.45 this year.
He also had a 37.4 PER and .399 win shares/48 in 14 games in those playoffs. It's really a shame it didn't end in a championship because it would have been considered by far the greatest playoff performance ever.
I don't think he was the defensive player back then that he is now, was he? And his offensive game certainly has fewer weaknesses.
