What's great about him is that he STILL is clearly not 100% comfortable out there. You could see it on the one drive where he put up a floater that was way short. Once he knew it was short, his instincts took over and he was quick back up with the offensive board and follow for 2. When he's instinctual like that he's great. But he still has so many moments of not being exactly sure what he should do. And that's great, because it's ok, it will go away with PT, and he should only get better.
Glad to see T Jones working hard to improve. Too much RWhite discusion, while White was regressing, T Jones was quietly progressing in the D-Leaque , much more NBA ready than Royce.
I am actually VERY glad we handle rookies the way we do. I feel like they get a great experience and also get a chance to see their personalities right off the bat. IF they can not handle going through something like EARNING playing time their ROOKIE year, imagine what happens during hardships that WILL happen to every successful team. You do not need distractions especially irrelevant ones. So, it's a great test of character. Also, when they finally get a chance, they are so hungry that they bring EVERY ounce of energy on the floor that they have. It looks, to me, TJones, Dmo, TRob, all will be (at the very least) serviceable players throughout their career, with potential to be something more.
Seems like he's got the body type to develop into a good defender. Like his BB IQ. His maximum upside might be as a power 3 a la Artest.
I don't get to see any games so I can only follow on videos like this. He looks great and I'm really excited for the playoffs when I'll actually get to see some games.
a common complaint for Patterson was he would never play big. We saw him settle for jumpers and frequently beat on rebounds. the first half the season, that is kind of what we saw out of Jones as well. A lot of jumpers. Aside from the 1 three, did he have a single attempt away from the rim? That will make a stat happy Morey very happy and McHale more willing to part with PT. Glad to see improvement.
Pretty disappointed by the number of misses from close range. Twice missed dunks, even if he was fouled on one and the other was a putback, he has to finish those plays.
I see what you mean, but a lot of those misses, he IMMEDIATELY erased with offensive rebounds. Even when he turned the ball over, he immediately recovered the ball.
Between TJ and Smith the last couple of games, I'm liking this approach to the PF position. No stretch 4s please; let them attack and grab extra possessions.
great game for him. Its good that he hustles for the rebounds and pounds the pain inside. I agree that I believe all of our current PFs (DMO, TJones, TRoB) are more paint players than stretch-4s. DMO can be the stretch 4 in certain instances but I think his game has been hurt by being put in that position. DMO has the best post moves on the team and should be able to take advantage of those. TJones and TRob are similar players imo and will both be beasts rebounding and getting put backs. will be interesting to see how Mchale ( i mean morey) use them going forward. Hopefully the days of "Pfs have to be stretch 4s" are over with this crew.
