Now that it's all but certain we will be going to the playoffs for the first time in 4 years (Any combo of Rockets wins + Jazz loses that equals 3 and we're in), it's interesting to see what people will see as defining this season as a success against our likely first round opponents (Denver, SA, Memphis, or OKC).
If we play Spurs/Thunder in first round and win, I'm expecting a chance for conference finals then. My expectations are sky high
I'd be happy with 1 win, thrilled with 2. The playoffs are a lot more physical, more of a half court style of play, and Harden might struggle if he doesn't get calls from the refs. Of course I would like them to upset someone in the 1st round, but I don't think it's very likely if we face Denver, LAC or OKC. Playoff experience will be huge for this young core.
Making the postseason. After that, I would like to see them compete and make the games interesting whether they win or lose.
Even after trading for Harden this season was supposed to be a throw-away season of development. Gravy is getting into the playoffs with a team that was supposed to be the 3rd worst in the West. I'd love for us to get to the 2nd round, but once we won our 37th game of the season, everything since has been icing. This team has a bright future, whether we win no games or 4 in the first round.
I'd be probably satisfied with at least 2 wins. Though if we get to the 6th seed, I think I'd be disappointed if we didn't win 3.
As long as the players go all-out and give all they have, i'll be happy. If they do that, I expect to we'll loose in the first-round, but it'll be a hell of a fight.
success is if our whole team plays well: asik w/defense+reb+finishing around basket parsons w/all around solid play harden w/playing like a superstar lin w/stepping his game up to allstar level and rookies/bench players playing solid. That being said, if everyone plays like tht we should at minimum win 2 games. I would say that is success and alot to build on. If we get swept, and Harden plays like crap...or if he is the only one to do anything..then i'd say it is a failure.
before the Harden trade I wasn't expecting us to make the playoffs...then after the trade I predicted maybe 14th pick again or possible 8th seed...so just making the playoffs is a HUGE step for this team...youngest team in NBA getting playoff experience is only going to help us get better so if we win a game or 2 I will be satisfied with the overall season
It depends on who we play in the first round, but I'd like to see the team win at least a couple playoff games. Granted, I've revised my expectations a great deal since last fall when I was on the tanking bandwagon(albeit before the Harden trade), but based on this team being 42-33 and looking like it has an abundance of young, promising talent, I don't think it's out of the question to expect a couple wins in the first round.
Success would be one win. Two wins would be excellent. If we can avoid a sweep, we will maximize our attractiveness to free agents.
As long as they show they can make adjustments and force the pace, I don't care how many games they win. However that SHOULD lead to at least one win. Two would be amazing.
