What do you think of the way our coaching staff has handled the PF position post trades?

  1. I like it. I believe it should be based on how well you play

It's more likely because of Jones' injury.

This. DMo already posseses great footwork and offensive repertoire. Now he knows the strength and physicality of the NBA. The rest is up to him to put in the work to gain strength. Oh, did I mention he is 7 foot?

TJones was awesome tonight. Looks like he will be earning some minutes in the next games, but consistency is what separates the starters from the bench (and the very end of the bend or D-League for that matter).

TRob is supremely athletic. I think right now he is perennial feast or famine type of player. Hopefully a summer league and offseason will help him slow down his game (in a good way) so he can make better decisions.

Greg Smith just needs to stop fouling and start to develop an elbow jumper.

With that said... I think us Rockets fans need to be prepared to lose 2 or 3 out of 4 frontcourt youngsters in this offseason.

TJones is our best option moving forward. TRob needs a summer w/ CD working on footwork. Dmo looks lost & just isn't strong or quick enough to play. I think Smith's more of acenter

I believe minutes based on production is a good way to motivate these young PFs even more. After T Jones had a good night, you know Dmo and Trob are gonna step up big time in practice so they don't lose more minutes

No one has established themselves at the position. It's open for someone to take.

As Janet Jackson said.... "I know he used to do nice things for you, but what has he done for you late-ly?" And that's how it is... and how it should be....
Keep 'em all hustling for minutes - that should be the policy top to bottom. I'm not sayin you bench Harden if his shot's not falling on any particular night... but even him, if the effort's not there... grab some pine, bub!

looking toward next year, barring a superstar trade, I would groom smith for that backup 5 spot (sliding into the 4 as well), but really see what you have with Trob/Jones/Dmo. They are all relatively low risk plays (in terms of no big contracts, and none were a rockets top 3 pick). I still like Trob's game, but he needs work. You can see his athleticism on the floor. Dmo's got a nice game too, but the coaching staff needs to figure out how to better utilize his skills (good post moves, slashing, passing). Haven't seen much Jones outside of last night, but I like what I see. He'll have growing pains.

    It'll be an interesting offseason.

As for the playoffs. I'd probably go with Asik/Dmo/par/har/lin. go to smith early but start him on the bench in case asik gets into foul trouble.

    should've signed kenyon martin...

Can we stop with the stupid confidence thing?
These are grown men and professional athletes not little girls in a beauty pageant.
They know that if they play bad, there are plenty of other guys working hard to take their spot. I think the logjam of young PFs on the team is great for their development cause it keeps everyone hungry and pushes them to keep improving their game so that they can secure their minutes.

Not really. These are 19 and 20 year olds, one year removed from high school.

More so I think it affects the the other players, they might expect certain screens and rolls and pops and just knowing where your teammate makes a difference. I'm sure you all play ball and when you play with someone you know it's easier than playing pickup with strangers because you don't know what to expect.

Mchale has mentioned this more than once...he has meaningful minutes for the guy that steps up and takes them...and when one such guy does so...you will see a more consistent rotation...Right now no one is consistent enough to warrant any consistent line ups...they are all the same NBA "age" and they should all be competing...

I hope Rox don't roll into the playoffs thinking PF by committee will be effective, but for right now, it works since honestly, all the PFs are flawed and talented to similar degrees due to their youth. But I hope in the next handful of games, we see a solidified rotation before taking on OKC.

    May the best PF win!

We traded our starting and backup PF like a month ago, and we have 4 potential PFs. All of those guys are "deserving." Let them fight for and earn the spot. Whoever doesn't make it gets traded this off season. It's kind of like a sick, Hunger Games, type of competition lol.
