they vlc's are great and seem pretty simple.

I downloaded a free vlc player and simply copy the stream link - open the player - and under open stream, paste the link in there.

Really has taken my frustration away regarding this whole debacle and reduces the astros/rockets leverage. oh well. as long as I get to see the games, I'm good.

Since the Astros broadcast area is more than just Houston are they asking the carriers to pay the per customer fee everywhere within that area (Oklahoma, Louisiana, South Texas, etc.)? If so that could increase the amount they're asking for pretty dramatically.

actually I was planning on releasing an awesome plan for everyone but its been more difficult then I thought it would be.

if anyone wanted to help me figure it out that would be great.

I bought WD live tv (a device that will hook up to an external hard drive and wifi and allows me to play media from the harddrive and transfer files from computer to the connected hard drive wirelessly)

Well there is an option for media sharing for your computer as well. So I set that up. Then there is a way to share online resources. You must download an app on your computer called serviio media server.

From here you select online resources. Live stream and plug in the url source for the live stream. Then you can play the stream on your TV from the WD live player. But your computer must also be playing the stream and remained power on.

The problem I have ran into is finding the correct stream address. Apparently it is not the url that you would go to view the stream from your browser.

I found out that there is another software that helps you find the true url source...but that is where I am stuck. Every url I use always winds up being a dead link.

The crazy thing is you can use this method to watch any stream there is for free. Virtually every channel has this as well. I found cinemax stream and HBO HD stream urls for instance.

Be nice if someone could find comcasts streams...and we can all say screw the system! ha

I see those VLC streams on Reddit, for those of you asking where to get them from. I'm not going to post any links, but they're in the game threads of /r/nba

I"m sure they are...but the number is probably higher per Houston area subscriber than it is to per Little Rock area subscriber.

Or you can just check the where to watch Rockets thread here during game time. People post links there. You won't get banned for posting them.

The newest DirecTv statement confirms what most of us thought, it's all about the price.

"We too want to enable any Astros fans to have CSN Houston. If the Astros and Comcast will agree to make the channel available only to those customers who want to pay for it OR make it more reasonable for all of our customers, we can have an agreement completed very soon."

Right but these links currently work due to a loophole, so posting the whole link in multiple places increases the chance that the loophole be closed.

Maybe, but more likely we are just hearing this because the Astros season just began. If nothing is done in the next couple of weeks, all sides will just go back to ignoring it until close to Rockets season next year.

It's their own fault. By holding out, it essentially forces Comcast into counting their losses. Some money is better than no money.

It would likely sold the same way Directv packaged FSNSW. $12.99 plus tax as part of some regional sports package. You would not be able to get the channel for $5. That would be reasonable.

I would not pay if it's more than $5 for the channel since it's taken this long. I've lost interest in watching Rockets games this season and I hate when people/companies are unreasonable and greedy.

Now that the Astros opening day has come and gone there are no more major milestones which might spur a side to cave a little and strike a deal. Seriously, what makes next Rockets season opener any more special than the last one.

    Things are looking grim.

Having another all-star to pair with Harden. That's why the next season opener might be more special than this past one.
