I didn't get a chance to watch the game against the Kings, but noticed that T Jones played some meaningful minutes. Can anyone provide a video, or any descriptions, about his performance on the night?
He did a good job overall. His first possession he looked lost offensively, but he settled down and kind of found his space on the court. Got a lot of dump passes for dunks (like Greg Smith normally does), and was very good on the offensive boards. Shot a 3 that left something to be desired, but was smooth closer to the hoop. Has good hands and finishes well. On defense it looked like he was so focused on his own guy that he didn't provide help side a couple times, but didn't do too bad considering he guarded Dcuz for around 3 minutes (only got worked in the post once). On other guys he got a hand up most of the time and got his hands on a few balls. Got up and hedged screens decently and dove on the ground a couple times, which I ****ing loved. He did much better than Dmo on defense and I would say showed himself to be around Trob's level defensively - which I would say is good for a rookie, around average league-wide. Had to like what we saw from him tonight, I would say with confidence that Dmo and Trob are playing for the 4th big man spot in the rotation at this point if Tjones keeps up an even relatively close level of play.
Of course the GARM is knee jerking hard right now, but let's keep in mind that T-Jones was actually worse in the D-League than D-Mo... 19 points and 9 rebounds on 48% shooting, as compared to 20 points and 10 rebounds on 52% shooting. One good game does not a career make... let's see who proves themselves in the long term. I'm sure all of our 4 PF's are going to keep getting opportunities to show their stuff.
I agree with you in that this means nothing if he lays an egg next game. Would you agree though that if he plays like he did tonight - or slightly below that level - he will be the most played big outside of Omer and possibly G Smith (if he can stay out of foul trouble)?
Actually, I think there was a dude here that has a thread on all Rockets games on torrents. But if we could find it, I could just download the game as well, no need for highlights.
No torrent yet on that thread, so as in other torrent places I have membership. Found some, but it was only half 2q and 2nd half (I mean missing parts was about 1.5quarter).
I gotta say, for all the talk Thomas Robinson got about being the best athlete on the team...I thought Jones looked faster, longer, sleeker. He was a beast on the boards.
Setting aside any TRob debate for now, Jones has as much upside as any player on the team not named Harden. That's why I was mortified when there was talk of shipping him off for a mid to late 1st rounder around the trade deadline. So looking forward to next year, to see how much progress our young guys have made. The future is very bright at the 4 spot.
I get that, but we ought to figure out which ones are worth keeping before we do it. It took about 3 seasons to know what we had in Pat. I still think he continues to improve, but he's no allstar. After his rookie season i might have said otherwise. I don't think we know what we have in those other guys yet. Not enough of a track record. Last thing we want is to sell short on a young stud.
