Especially with Darvish hanging breaking balls all over the place. We just aren't doing anything with them.
So what is it? Astros pathetic, or Darvish good? Likely both being a component... but this is far more of a Darvish accomplishment than an Astros failure. Darvish has good stuff, and its all on display tonight. That being said, the Astros are on the verge of being perfect gamed in two consecutive seasons... albeit from pretty damn good pitchers (Caine, Darvish).
I don't know what the all-time record is for the # of games in a single season a team gets no-hit or perfect gamed. But whatever it is, there's a good chance this woeful Astros team will break it.
Last year, Yarvish never had a game with less than 4 baserunners. He also never had a game without a walk or less than 2 hits allowed, and he never pitched a complete game. It's not like he's a guy who flirted with no-hitters on a regular basis - or ever.
All the Astros fans in Arlington prior to 2010 made the Rangers fans mad as well. Its simply the bandwagon nature of these two franchises, with a bunch of transplants that could root for whichever team is "better".
They're not as good as they were in game 1, and they're not as bad as they are tonight... that being said, we all know this team is not good.
True... but I wouldn't go nuts with a guy's first MLB season. Are you aware of his stats in Japan regarding proximity to no hitters? (basically equivalent to what a big league pitcher would do in the minors prior to coming up). Also, this is about to be the 6th perfect game in the last 3 years at the MLB level... prior to that there were only 16 in about 100 years. Something is definitely trending in baseball... and teams are currently becoming prone to games like this.
