Yep. If Corporan gets hurt, you lose the DH. It's happened to the Twins when Mauer has DH'd. I know it is a rare occurrence, but it does happen.
Nope. If your DH goes in to play the field, you lose the ability to DH the rest of the game. You can certainly pinch hit for the DH and he becomes your new DH, but once the DH goes to play the field, the pitcher steps into the batting order. In tonight's example, if Corporan gets hurt, Castro goes to catch and the pitcher would hit in Corporan's spot.
The other thing that concerns me about using Castro as DH is that if a really tough left hander comes in and it is a "game" situation, Porter will have to think twice about pinch hitting for him.
Happens almost every year. Of course, I'll live with the pitchers hitting or pinch hitting if it happens.
That would be interesting. I'm not sure they will pinch hit for Castro this year regardless though. Certainly a change from last year, since he wouldn't have started against Harrison.
Agreed. I assume however, that Porter would roll the dice and pinch hit if he thinks it is best for the team. I wonder who their emergency catcher is. My guess is Wallace.
what?? a loophole in the DH rule that would force the pitcher to hit. i thought you NL purists would be psyched about that possibility.. you guys are probably rooting for this scenario so you can see some "real" baseball..
