I think it's pretty bad advice when people tell him to keep it. If the dude finds himself the right girl, he's not gonna want to give her the same ring that he was about to give another girl. Besides, the ring only brings bad memories, and if the girl were to find out, i'm pretty sure she'd be pissed that he's regifting the ring.
