I wasn't around for the Love ya Blue days so the Run N Shoot days were my fondest NFL memories growing up. RIP
Que En Paz Descanse Jack Pardee. Loved his coaching days at UH, loved him as a coach for the OILERS. Sad times for Houston sports. His tenure here won't be forgotten. I hope the Titans do something special to honor the man that has gotten them the best regular season record ever.
Between watching the Oilers leave and going to U of H in the Helton-Dimmel era, I pretty much stopped caring about football. The last time I got excited about it was watching Haywood Jeffries take a catch 40 yards for a TD in the first Steelers game during that '93 season that they started out 1-4. Cowher was in his second year and with O'Donnell taking over for Brister and Foster's brief stint in the "big 3" it seemed like they had leap-frogged the Oilers and possibly doomed us back to mediocrity. That was actually just a year away, but it was fun for that last fall and winter to fantasize about a Cowboys-Oilers Super Bowl. I sincerely believe Pardee got paranoid after washing out with the Bears and losing a power struggle (?) with Beathard in DC; and might have traded away 40 years of championship level college and professional football knowledge for a safe, easy system. I think in '90, after Holovak spent a decade (?) stocking the Oilers with talented receivers and young running backs, Pardee made a crucial error in not picking from both baskets and creating a more balanced, but equally dynamic and infinitely more clock-friendly, offensive system. That having been said, he seems to have been a decent, even-tempered human being; who tolerated a lot more from his boss than most coaches of his caliber would have.
RIP Jack Pardee I remember growing up near Beaumont, his Oilers were always fun to watch.. I know we came close a couple of times, but I hope someday somebody can take the Run N Shoot offense and win the Super Bowl.. that would be sweet
RIP to Coach Pardee My favorite 3 games he coached UH 60 Texas 40 UH 66 Texas 15 UH 47 Texas 9 I still think the 1989 team is the best team ever at UH.
