Listened to this and was cracking up at this part. Watch the Grizzlies turn into another team full of past-Rockets...

if patterson has another surgery, and he might need it. it'll be his 4th, if you count the follow up scope he had.

The most interesting thing I got out of that was that he thinks they have a puncher's chance against the Spurs now that Ginobili's out. He also said against the Clippers it's scary because they have the best player in the match-up (Paul). So there's that for the "Harden is the 3rd best player" crowd.

Lebron, Durant, Paul...best three players in the NBA.

Tony Parker and Harden are in next tier at 4 and 5.

He also mentioned wanting to remain flexible going into 2014 when there would be better free agents available. Doing a little dance in my head, took it to mean he'd look at signing someone to a 1yr deal while also preserving some cap room (like he did this year) to remain agile come 2013's deadline. Then have max space in 2014.

    Nothing new really.

Or trade for a guy with 1 year left on his deal, if no free agent can be signed for a good enough price.

I hope we stay flexible for 14.

    Dwight or bust in 13.

So we all misunderstood McHale in the Orlando game. He sat the starters trying to lose so we can remain as 7th seed behind the Warriors, hoping the Spurs drop to #2 below OKC.

    It's all clear now ...

Scratch that. Let's make a push for Patterson. He'll make us a contender right away.

He did say there are some big time players in this upcoming FA class that we hope we can talk to and convince to sign with us. Mentioned that he thinks we have a desirable location and used Cleveland as a contrast. Said Cleveland has no chance to sign big time players lol.

Also mentioned signing guys to Delfino type deals this summer. Small deals that can bring vets in to help chemistry.

    LOL at Carl. Good stuff.

    So here's what we know:

    1. He's going after Howard and Paul. (He thinks Paul is better than Harden. Remember, Morey thinks Paul is the greatest PG of all time.) (And we already knew he is going to make a play for these guys.)

    2. If he doesn't get one or both of 1., guys on 1-yr deals are attractive. (This just makes sense, doesn't it?)

But you left out Andrew Bynum. I can see us blowing our cap for next season on Bynum if everything else fails. Give him a 2-yr deal with signing bonus first year and second year team option. If it was close to the max, that would probably be more guaranteed money than anybody else would be willing to give him. If he works out, we've got him for cheap on the second year. If he doesn't work out...cap space again for 2014.

Depending on what the market bears I can see the above scenario being played out with somebody else besides Bynum, perhaps even Millsap or JSmoove. And frankly if we sign any free agent, I would expect it to be a 3-yr deal at most with a signing bonus and either team or player option on the last year and if one of those guys would fall to Morey on a 2-yr deal with a signing bonus and player option on the second season that would be even better.

These last couple games with Greg Smith playing alongside Asik have intrigued me enough to think more seriously about Josh Smith possibly playing here. JSmoove is obviously a superior defender to Greg and he'd be better getting out on the break and finishing. Probably not as good as Greg with the true post ups but we don't run that many anyways. I haven't given a lot of consideration to Josh Smith simply because of his attitude and bone-headedness on the court. But I'm rethinking that after watching Asik/GSmith for a couple games here.

    3. Morey never puts all his cards on the table. Just remember that. He's never going to outline ALL the possibilities that he is thinking about and most likely is going to provide enough generic statements to send people off in all sorts of directions. Keep that in mind.
