McHale: Some young guys are getting minutes they don't deserve for developmental purposes

DMo is not better than Greg Smith atm, and we can always go small with Delfino.
the way TRob is playing right now, he prob should be send into D-League long time ago.

And I'm glad he did. These guys are going to be playing playoff games in a few weeks, and they really need to improve.

 

I know you are being sarcastic, but it really should ( at least a bit ). Nothing can replace the pressure of an actual game. The fact that the last two minutes of the game was a true pressure situation, adds to the fact that the game provides irreplacable experience. The only way for the game to slow down for these guys is to log NBA minutes. Playing against your teamates in practice without an actual loss riding on your play isn't gonna cut it. I know people are pissed about Mchale's decision , but if you look at my post in the camel's back thread on page 4 then maybe you can at least see another perspective for not putting the starters back in.

There was articles on this. Adelman didn't like all the shaking up Morey was doing of the roster especially without giving him a heads up. Adelman wanted to be here, but Morey kinda pushed him out and asked him to groom his successor at the same time. They also disagreed on the rotations which baffled me because the GM shouldn't be telling a future HOF coach who should &shouldn't play, that's blasphemous. I kinda wish they could've worked it out. Adelman was a fantastic coach

 

He is saying Anderson and Garcia deserve more minutes.

 

McHale doesn't think Lin needs development time, esp. on closing games?

 

it's irrelevant, coz these backup guys should have no biz out there in the last 3mins of any game. On the contrarary, you might want blow out a lead then put starters back in and let them savage the situation, that can be called learning experiences, coz they are the ones who have to be out there in a tight situation for games after games.

 

I don't think McHale is saying anyone "deserves" more minutes. I think he's finding out like most of us are that the young upside players he's put in (Motiejunas and Robinson) are still pretty raw and inconsistent.

The young guys were pressed into action because experienced players Patterson and Morris were sent out, doesnt have much alternatives. Its almost saying they got undeserved promotions into starters. Which yeah, D-Mo and T-Rob didnt do MUCH to MERIT their time.

I'm sure McHale WANTED to trust them to do well, for his own record or to justify the acquisitions, but they havent come through. Basically he's speaking in a little hindsight. Foresight right after the trade, Garcia wasnt gonna get time. Terrence Jones was injured. D-Mo was the "tenured" guy to try at PF while keeping Greg Smith at backup 5.

 

Yeah we need to develop our rookies for our championship RUN THIS YEAR!! come on Lets Go!!!

 

I think he is talking about DMo. Maybe he wanted to play Smith at this position for a long time?

 

It's apparent that McHale still bytches about the trades. This is more about DMo than anyone else.

If he had given some rotational minutes to DMo and/or TJones instead of keep play Delfino at 4, either PPat or Morris would still be here by now.

How does Morey feel when he had FIVE young PF's and McHale only played TWO and has NO intention of developing the others?? To add insult to injury, he played Delfino, who is not part of Rockets' future plan, at 4 on a regular basis?

It sure doesnt make any GM comfortable seeing two rookies (not counting Royce) rot at the end of the bench and in DL.

If McHale cared for the future development of stockpile of PF's and at Morey's pedicament, we wouldn't be in this situation.

There is a struggle just like the movie Moneyball. The subjective old school coach does not play the roster the way his analytical GM intends. Even after the GM makes trades to force the issue, the bad coach still is not on board.

McHale overplays D-Mo and Parsons, and underplays Smith, Garcia, Anderson (and complains about it). He also marginalizes Lin and overplays Harden. Not playing your talent right is a sign of bad coaching.

 

Sounds like trouble within. We are all too familiar with that.

 

He would but unfortunately Lin is allergic to the fourth quarter. What's a guy going to do?
