"Jack Pardee, a legend of Texas football at every level on which the sport can be coached or played, has been diagnosed with terminal gall bladder cancer and has six to nine months to live, according to family members." http://www.chron.com/sports/texans/article/NFL-great-Jack-Pardee-ill-with-cancer-4071441.php I remember some good times and some bad times but Jack Pardee will always have my respect.
This sucks. One of the nicest guys ever and a whole bunch of ties to Houston football having coached 3 Houston football teams that I can think of. On top of that, he was a pretty good football player, too.
I always wondered what his true responsibility was when he was the Oilers coach. He had fallen in love with the run and shoot later in his coaching career (thus, he wasn't the true architecht of it)... and Gilbride pretty much ran the plays outright. We also know the defense was handled by Eddy/Ryan. I guess he was the glue that kept it alltogether... and everybody had nothing but praise for his overall makeup/composure. I wish him well... he will always be a Texas legend.
Sad news to pass along as Mr. Pardee has passed. RIP. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Jack Parde, 77, died today from complications from cancer of the gall bladder.</p>— John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL) <a href="https://twitter.com/McClain_on_NFL/status/318860114834644992">April 1, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
RIP Coach Pardee. Great man. He made Houston college and pro football exciting to watch during his tenure.
I loved watching the post-game shows with Jack and Giff Nielsen on Sunday nights after Oilers games. One of my earliest memories as a sports fan. RIP Jack.
