38.2% (138-361), from College 3 - not bad. Anyways, Rocket have him at min for next year and we get to see how he does in the playoffs.
The real question should be which combo would be better for the Rockets. 1. Lin + Beverly 2. Bev + AB 3. Lin + AB DD
Beverley is a better all around player, but Brooks was way more talented before his injuries. Ideally, Beverley is like a 10 minute defensive backup.
Good summary. This is why the Lin/bev combo is solid. They both bring different elements/strengths to the game. It's like going from a finese starting pitcher to a hard throwing closer. The only thing that both lack in is experience. I will agree, Brooks was brought in for insurance, but also probably because one of Lin or Bev is traded this offseason.
regarding TOs, many factors need to be considered instead just saying he has low TOs and he has high TOs. Lin is a typical example. when aggressive, his TO normally goes high. it is not that tough to understand. it's one reason we see his TO dropped alot compared to the last season (lot ppl here quoted his TO # to prove he get better this year. of coz ppl didn't take the stlye he played this year vs last year). He played more or less ball-bring-up type pg this season since we have harden. when he becomes aggresive, he turns over more. on the other hand, PB played very conservatively. he dumped the ball to harden more than not or rarely see he aggresively attacking the rim. normally he passed the ball around alot when harden was not on the court. i won't say aggressive style must be tied to high TO but you can't deny the possiblity of TO when aggressive.
bev is lowry's fiestyness re-incarnated into little black bean's body brooks doesn't really seem to have that offensive spark he used to be able to provide
Doesn't matter. The team needs 3 PGs anyways. The only thing in question is who the main backup PG will be.
The better the player is, the more turnovers he will have. That's one of the most basic tenets of basketball and always has been. The best players are almost always at the tops in turnovers. High turnovers for a player is usually just a very good sign that he's a great player.
At this point in their careers, yeah Beverley is better than AB. AB probably ends up with the better career overall. Small point guards like Beverley and AB decline quickly once they lose that half step.
I'm talking about the back-up Lowry when he was on the Rockets. I don't expect Bev to retain his tenacity and hustle if more minutes though.
Yep. Lin cost way more but from a GM standpoint is Beverley really that valuable? Yes he has great hustle/heart whatever you want to call that, but to a GM is that really that rare, and is it more valuable then a player with unique skill sets? And with increased minutes that flare would probably go down a bit, right? IMO, not many teams would invest in Beverley as their PG of the future, but many teams would likely trade for him as a solid backup PG. You'd probably get more back for Lin through trade, but it would be harder to find a buyer with his contract.
No, but Mchael's system likes defense first players unless you're Harden. Whoever plays defense will get minutes. TD can't run sophisticated offense in NY and was treated like garbage over there. AB is not a good fit for coach's system, even if he can be a starter under Adelman. Beverly played hard as expected for his contract year, and he can be agressive against subs in limited minutes. But he's just a 3/d role player at this point just like Garcia/Anderson/Delfino.
Defense is NOT all effort. Length, quickness, and understanding the scheme are all factors. None of them mean much if you don't give effort but I could go out there and give 100% effort. I'd still get owned. Don't get why people think Beverley is a better defender. It's just obviously untrue unless you focus on spectacular plays. If anything, Beverley is a steadying hand on offense paired with a ball dominating Harden whereas Lin can be schizophrenic.
Beverley has been perfect for the Rox so far. Some of our players are feast or famine. If they hit their outside shots they look great, if not they provide little else. Beverley is like Asik in that he hustles and defends on a very high level and brings it every night. He saved us with that block against San Antonio. To me he is more valuable than another scorer considering we already have a top offense. Ask a team like Miami whether they'd rather have Mario Chalmers or Aaron Brooks, they'll take Chalmers any day. Dirty work PGs with an outside shot are underrated. I think Bev could be here for years.
well, i'd love to see lin stay because of this little stat that a lot of Rockets fans don't know about. "On all of his passes out of the pick-and-roll, Lin ranked in just the 40th percentile in points per play. However, when going exclusively to the roll man, Lin ranked in the 72nd percentile (fifth of 35 point guards with 100 plays)." Lin and Chandler were pretty much killing it last year in the pnr and you can tell Lin is trying hard to work on this with Asik, but Asik's offensive skill set just isn't there yet. The Rockets other 4's don't seem like good pnr'ers yet (maybe Trob can develop into one). i really like when smith and lin are both out on the floor because smith runs the floor well and can finish at the rim (something asik is still struggling with). that being said, DM knows what he has in Harden and will now try to complement him with better fits. I think Lin would still be a good fit because he's a pass first PG, who has improved markedly on his 3point accuracy. to answer your question, Morey has been creative with his trades, but with d12 still dangling, I don't know how he would not offer the farm for him, even with all his antics. Utah also makes sense...
Odd picture to use for the OP. Bev is better than Aaron for certain situations. If he's hitting the 3 (which seems rare after his red-hot start with the Rockets), then he definitely is better. If he's not hitting the 3, then it's a toss up to me. What's more important at the point in that particular game: Brooks' offense or Beverly's defense?
Lin=Bev>Brooks With that I would say that Lin has the skills to be a special player in the NBA but needs to be a lot more consistent and agressive (he needs to attack the backet like Westbrook).Bev plays very very hard which can sometimes be mistaken for being better than you actually are ALA MONTE....but Bev brings it almost every night and that is the difference. Both are 1a and 1b so you really dont loose much depending on what night each is having. But I like both as is but if one had to go it would be Lin due to his marketability and semi-star feel he has (although not yet derserved) and could net a pretty good player in return.
As you can read I left Brooks out because C'MON MAN !! He wont play unless there is a injury point blank.....
