So Anderson is the grizzled veteran and Harden is the young pup they are trying to develop?

I hear ya, but no, I was talking about guys he thought were stuck behind players they want to develop.

The only two that got an opportunity in the Clips game were Anderson and Garcia.....maybe G. Smith too, but he has been playing all year.

Trying to figure out McHale can be a mind screw at times...

    LOL

Yes, which leads me to believe he is speaking hypothetically. Meaning, normally(on a good team) a player like D-Mo, or T-Robinson would probably get pulled out of the game to play your veteran instead when they make mistakes that would land you on the bench normally like missing a defensive assignment, taking a bad shot, etc.

On this team, they are giving the coaches nothing but young options to keep this team focused on years down the road where someone like D-Mo, or T-Rob might develop into an all-star talent.

If Mchale gave the list of names, it would be great. It might be JLin.

Robinson and D-Mo are being showcased for various reasons, ranging from developing their future as members of the Rockets, to packaging them in a deal for an upgrade at PF.

Just reading this thread you would think McHale was bad mouthing management and claiming he is being forced to play players he didn't want to play. But then I listened to the whole interview and it didn't sound like that at all.

It sounded more like he was just trying to say he has been playing DMo, trying to develop him and win at the same time and that hasn't been best situation and probably giving too many minutes to others that haven't really proved anything yet and haven't really earned those minutes. And that actually sounds like a fair assessment.

Also Morey has been very clear he does not have an input in the gametime rosters. But certainly he has forced McHale's hands by trading players. Still I do not suspect he has ordered McHale to play DMo or he had to get Morey's permission to start Smith andif that is true and there is nothing to this interview other voicing a truth about what has been part of his decision to start DMo and play Robinson and why he has continued with that een though they have been inconsistent.

The only other thing I might read into that is after the trade which he clearly hated, he might have got the message that Morey wants to play DMo and not PPat or Morris. Now Morey may not have said play DMo but McHale is not so stupid that he can't see that was Morey's wish. And even then McHale tried to circumvent it by playing Delfino at the 4. Still he has subcumb somewhat and perhaps his words reflect it is not the optimal choice for a team in the playoff hunt. But I wouldn't read anything more into it.

Garcia is 31. I doubt he is the one being referred, but Anderson is probably included.

I do think he is making a general statement and is not answering the question specifically. I think he is referring to Smith, Motiejunas, Robinson, and Anderson. While McHale will play rookies that are ready, he is very leery about playing rookies/ young guys that aren't. Especially without his best player, he will want guys that he can depend on being where they are suppose to be.

I would think the Morey-McHale relationship is at an all-time low since the trades. McHale wants to win. He must feel like Sisyphus. Based on the quote, McHale probably doesn't like that Morey sees the most important purpose behind minutes this season is for development. Playoffs is second. I think Morey is doing a good job looking at the future. McHale is doing a good job winning games considering what he has been dealt, but I don't think that helps the frustration of his job continually getting harder.

Greg Smith has been playing all year, sometimes behind scrubs like Cole Aldrich. McHale should probably just stop talking.

It's not JLin. There's no way McHale's talking about a starter who's been here from day 1.

It's good to be honest, but there is no reason to say it. Just keep on working with them.

I'd have to agree with Clutch.

DMo, especially as starter, gets used like a cumcloth by every opposing power forward.

TRob looks like a monkey ****ing a football out there ("Days of Thunder", a.k.a., "Top Car").

But that's the Morey power forward merry-go-round, hopefully to be fixed in the offseason.

    *cough* Including the coach! *cough*

Probably talking about Motiejunas and/or maybe just Robinson, although they probably need those minutes because as we saw during JVG's tenure, not playing your rookies means they all will turn out like crap or only spring to productivity when they leave the team and go elsewhere.

Besides, truth be told, from what I've seen both guys have talent that warrant giving them minutes, I'm fine with it since they seem to get more out of playing on the court then just riding the bench.

Probably a shot at Morey. Morey's probably pushing Mchale to play certain players (like Dmo) for developmentally purposes while Mchale's trying to win now. Basically what Adelman's gripe was about Morey

I think McHale, if we were looking at a single game, would give Jones minutes. Robinson was just that guy you had to play and develop, so he moved up in front of Jones.

I took it as that's exactly what he was referring to. I don't think he was being compelled by management to play D-Mo and Robinson. I think he felt compelled by the need for size to do so. Those guys don't deserve the minutes, but they are the best options left to give you power forward size after Morris was traded away 'to open minutes for the younger guys.' Greg Smith had been an option early in the season, but he fell out midseason because his energy level was falling and his production dried up. Now, he's doing well again and McHale doesn't have to put up with Motie and Robinson so much.

Its most definitely the big men. Its been stated numerous times that big men take TIME to develop. Dirk was absolute trash his first year, tyson chandler wasn't a barn burner, marc gasol took about 3 years to develop etc..

If you look at it from any angle the rockets won't lose any sleep over their big men prospects. Im guessing the way they look at it is, if they pan out thats good. If they don't then you cut corners like you did with morris and restock. This year was supposed to be a lottery year yet we are on pace for a 46 win season including the playoffs.

Look at it this way, T-Rob and DMO and even Jones are solid prospects that have good potential to pan out in the future. If one of them pans out in the near future then you trade the other two for another piece.

And as far as beverly and lin, they are just part of the revolving door of rockets point guards. I'd assume lin gets a bit more stay because he has had the most potential of any of the guards that have played point for us recently. And if he doesn't improve well then you don't bring him back after he expires and throw money or trade for a better guard. simple.

Wow, correct me if i read this wrong, but in my interpretion it sounds like, our bench sucks and I am plying them only coz I am missing 2 starters. Otherwise I wouldn`t play these scrubs from the bench.....

    :rolleyes::rolleyes:
