Considering that Gasol plays next to Randolph, why is 7.7 rebounds pathetic?

Good question, I guess since Gasol is 7'1 and is considered one of the better centers
you would expect more than 7.7Reb regardless who he's playing next to. By the way
his career avg. is 8.0 so that's pretty much what to expect from him.

Both. Get Pau for 1 year, wait for summer 2014, then target bigger fish (than Josh Smith and such). If it doesn't work, wait for 2015 and Love. It takes a bit patience, but as far as building a contender, i think i'd rather take that patient approach.

Memphis is the 2nd best rebounding team in the league, by the way. The only team that's better (Indiana) has an overall size and length advantage over Memphis. So they are doing very well. You can't expect to get all the boards.

Marc Gasol is so fundamentally sound. He's not the best athlete, but a big reason for his lower numbers is that he's just not a numbers w****. He's going to box out instead of chasing a board. And he's so focused and disciplined at running back on defense that he's never going to get a ton of offensive boards unless they just drop into his lap. I guess if he was a bit more selfish and less focused on defense, he might push his rebounding average to double digits but would it really be a good thing?

Gasol´s impact on the game can´t be judged by his stats. He is the best center in the league at the moment IMO

Gasol is a more complete player but I don't know that I would trade for Gasol's salary.

One thing I did notice was that if you keep your center's minutes around 30 they play the whole season. Any more and they start sitting games at least that is how it works for Gasol, Asik has never played more than 30 and probably shouldn't.

I love Omer. Nothing against Omer. But Marc Gasol is literally the best possible big man in the league to pair with a bigger superstar like Harden. Maybe Dwight is a better center if you're looking for 20 points a game from your center. But when it comes to being the second best guy on the team and making everyone else better, no one is in Marc Gasol's league right now.

I would absolutely pay a max contract for Gasol the next 3 years over sticking with Omer's bargain contract.

Omer. Pau can't do much on defense.

Cap space is just the *potential* for acquiring a good or great player.

Marc Gasol is *already* a great player.

    I'll take Gasol.

Bird in the hand vs 2 in the bush if you know what I mean.

I love Asik, but Marc Gasol would be the oh-so-coveted 2nd star player for this team. It's Gasol hands down.

Gasol is a durable 7'1 two way center in his prime. These guys are worth the max.

Gasol is basically the best center in the game right now. Easily Marc Gasol. Marc Gasol is such a good passer. He's the best positioner on defense. He has offensive moves. The offense runs through Marc Gasol. The defense runs through Marc Gasol.

A better comparison for Omer is Tyson Chandler.

Yep. At the end of the day cap-space doesn't make success, great players do. Marc Gasol is a legitimate DPOY candidate and is also a great post player on offense. Then if we were able to match that with a rebounding stretch four...

ok I love this idea, screw Milsap/Smith, get Pau for a year and you still have all your options open in summer 2014

MGasol is one of the most complete centers in the league. He and Joakim are the best passing centers who average around 4 APG.

Very little flaws in his game w/ high bbiq and will definitely make any team better. Even at 28, he is just coming into his prime!

It's a pipe dream that Grizzlies will trade for Asik str8 up+ fillers. Marc is more of their franchise piece than ZBo.

Actually they are 3rd behind (Indiana & Brooklyn) which would make them an
elite rebounding team, but I personally would like to see more than 7.7Reb. per
    game from my star center.

As far as him not really going after offensive rebounds, well all I know is that
it is harder to get offensive rebounds vs. defensive rebounds.

Regardless I am also on the bandwagon of Gasol being the better player and
fit for the Rockets, but Memphis has him and it's unlikely that the'll let him go.

Why would we need flexibility for another max player when we'd have Gasol?

And that comparison still wouldn't be fair. Chandler >>>> Asik

Asik might average slightly higher rebounding,

defense seems similar but Chandler is a better shot-blocker, and a MUCH more threat offensively. He can catch passes mid-air for a easy alley-oop slam way too easily.
