I'm talking about the January 16th game when Delfino was guarding Dirk in the 4th quarter and Dirk had around 10 points in that stretch and we lost by 5... It's other games that McHale put the team in bad situations by having Delfino at the 4 when trying to force teams to go small and match up and they didn't. Some of you McHale apologist are worst then the LOFs...
Very insightful thread, Thanks OP! I am still very critical of mchale but this thread seriously made me re-think my stance on him
Just watch us in most games in the fourth quarter. Iso is definitely the main play we run. As far as being the best coach with Minnesota. Do you notice something from that list??? Saunders, Casey, Whittman, Rambis, Mchale None of those guys are coaches in the NBA anymore. So your argument is he's the best of the worst.
considering we run iso only 10.8% of the time on the entire season, I highly doubt you're watching very closely in the fourth quarter. iso is not the "main play" that the rockets run. your point about the other coaches being out of this league is almost fair, but casey is the head coach of the raptors. he was also an assistant on the mavs when they won their championship. mchale is definitely better than bad coaches. he's most likely a fairly average coach.
Thanks again. It's very informative material you provided. So, I'd agree now that the team is heading to the right direction and imperfections are part of the learning curve. However, devil is often in the details. It takes a lot to implement the sound conception and convert it into enduring success. It remains to be seen whether McHale with help of Morey can finish the product. But there is hope.
well............his "read and react" offense suck compares to Adelman's "read and react" yea, that's right. i'm a MOH! i guess i can thank him for starting Parsons over Budinger. *shrugs*
I agree with you on the isolation plays, but your post about comparing him to Kurt Rambis and Randy Wittman to support your argument is just laughable.
I'm withholding judgement on McHale until after the playoffs. If somehow he'll be able to win some games during the playoffs then I'm sold. I'll give him another year then the expectations go higher. McHale isn't perfect but at least he's winning with our current lineup. One thing though, he should make sure Harden can play in the playoffs... and Lin, Parsons, Asik, Beverley, Smith and the whole team. Unlike LOHs and LOFs here, I wish well for the entire team to perform.
There is no way a coach advocates iso play. But is it possible that McHale relies too heavily on Harden's talent, I don't know. From the record, one can't come to a conclusion he is a good coach. 60% winning is great but that's only for 31 games. All other numbers look bad when hes the coach or GM. Then again, the record heavily depends on the talent he had at the time. Anyway, I like Adelman and Tomjanovich much better. I guess it is a personality thing.
Jackson won 13 championships, his coaching record is 0.704. Ok he is not an X's and O's coach but he doesn't have to, he has got Tex Winter. Who McHale has got for details? Apparently to me Jackson's lack of X's and O's isn't considered to be his strength. Now the OP is suggesting McHale is not strong in X's and O's so he may be a great coach.
All right, the numbers you stated are probably correct, but comparing Kevin McHale to Phil Jackson is a lot worse than comparing Lin to Harden. As a Lin fan, I would never use Linsanity numbers to compare with Harden. It simply doesn't show the whole picture.
You are definitely exaggerating and assuming. The Rockets is not going to win a Championship any time soon. So far there is not a lot of evidents to suggest Beverly would finish the final quarter of the final game instead of Lin. And finally, if that unlikely scenario indeed happens, the extreme case is most Lin fans just not showing up. As a Lin fan myself, I would be just disappointed and have nothing to say.
Read any game thread where the Rockets had a big win. Every single game thread is the same, Jeremy Lin is somehow mistreated by Kevin McHale. I'm not exagerating, but I wish I was.
I think Rockets overachieving because of Harden. How many fans have expected Harden being this good? And also Asik, Parsons, Lin all meet or exceed expectations. I don't really know who is the better coach but I believe the players would be happier with Adelman than McHale and they would achieve the same if not better result.
