Out of curiosity, why is this thread tagged with "asia" and "asian," but not with another other racial terms and/or other continents/nationalities?
I'm always interested in these topics since the desexualization among Oriental and Pan-Indian males is higher than other races when it comes to Western culture. When I initially read the op, I took it more as cultural stereotypes created against a race to exaggerate or minimize traits in order to de-humanize and de-normalize. Of course, the push and pull between dominant and minority cultures works both ways. p*rn has been pretty good at creating distortions as it is towards facilitating the illusion that opening the doors to private taboos. I mean sh***, the Japanese have to be more selective with the actors. Making the rest of us look bad. As much as I like to say body type is where I rely on (which is discriminatory and awful awful thing as well ) of course race matters. I recently read that beauty is a cultural construct and wow, that was a mind blower. Outside of physical features that represent health, age and genetic adversity, there's a chunk of outside factors that play on you. Pinup girls in the 50s do not look like today, which is why the internet in its ridiculousness are divided on Kate Upton's attractiveness when her features are much more similar to Marilyn Monroe than the other stock SI models. You gotta admit that and live with what plays on you through the outside, rather than assuming you're the master of your domain. When it comes to sex, you never are. As for the topic discussion and how it turned out, I'm sure sexual attraction is stronger than racism. Even if you can equate sexual attraction as a social construct, there's a lot more personal and conscious motivation to maintain racist mindsets and perspectives. Repressing sexual desire through racism does not necessarily mean said desires are snuffed out. It may very well galvanize racist sentiment in order to oppress and dominate. Which is why a good majority of African Americans aren't purely black through several generations in their lineage.... If you hate fruits, then the proper term is homophobic.
Attractiveness is not a cultural construct. That's ludicrous. People made sexual choices thousands of years before there was such thing as culture. Pure sexual attractiveness is about as genetic as it gets.
If I can answer you and Heypartner at the sametime yes beauty and attractiveness are cultural constructs which is obvious from any study of art and anthropological history. Consider do any of you find a heavy set woman with a small hip to waist ratio attractive? Do you find woman with elongated skulls attractive? What about woman with very long necks? Those are all features that at various times and among various cultures were considered attractive. As Invisible Fan notes what was considered the height of beauty just 60 years ago would be considered fat by today's standards. Consider that if attractiveness wasn't cultural things like tattoos, piercing, foot binding and other such body modifications likely wouldn't be so widespread. Also while people have had sex since before we were people culture as a concept actually pre-exist homosapiens as early hominids used things like tools. Further studies among other apes show that they also likely have culture.
I think I can prove that I am not rayciss because I would bang all of the below! Black (African-American): Ethiopian: Indian: Half-Arabic: 3/4 Thai: Half-Korean: Part Mexican: Paraguayan: Brazilian: White: Spoiler Okay, this inspired me to make a new thread...to the Hangout I go!
How the hell did you post the exact same picture that I was about to post in the ass thread in the hangout? Oh well... "young east African girl you too busy..."
Why exactly would this matter? A date is an opportunity to get to know someone better. In fact, I would say going on that date would have influenced your views on the Asian race as a whole.
I'm not attracted to 350+ women. Does that mean I'm prejudice against overweight people? And I'm not attracted to any man. Does that mean I'm homophobic?
Actually, I think personal standards of beauty are just part of a larger mechanism for very quickly evaluating certain behavioral and socioeconomic attributes. Tanning booths, peroxide and blue contact lenses; particularly in the quantities they're consumed, really don't make much sense otherwise. But I do agree that it's an intrinsic anthropological function, and reiterate that it's a more fundamental prerogative than racial tolerance and should never be subject to moral, social or normative scrutiny from anyone else.
Yeah easy to say about them. THe real test is what you think about the indian/latina etc. equivalents of your lowest notch, whether that be a 2 or 8. Think about the fattest ugliest WHITE woman you'd be with... now imagine she's BLACK. /mcconnaughey'd. With all due respect to your work in the '13 best ass thread, yes, you must have sexual intercourse with Precious, or else you're a racist.
One thing I've noticied is alot of people seem to be attratced to people who look like themself in one way or another.
I respect those standards. I also have some bad news about your future children: Spoiler they don't exist Spoiler
