Not a great start to Porter's managerial career IMO. 2 on, 2 out, with Murphy up. Bedard was ready in the pen, Norris has been struggling with pitch count all night, and he sticks with him. Maybe the right call in June, but Opening Day is not the time to push your starter.
This is really really minor and opinionated, but did anyone notice the smile on Bedard's face leaving the mound after the eighth? These guys are having fun #BoBall
wow, a negative nancy with the stros up 7-2 on opening day on ESPN in a season where they're projected to lose 100?
He has got nothing to lose, and you don't pull Bud on an Opening Day start after he has been pitching well all day. Bud wanted a chance and Bo gave it to him.
Also, if they leave Bedard in (which they should), he would record the first Astro save as a result of the 3 IP rule. Who had money on Bedard getting the first save of the Astro season?
Wins are not the point of this season. The goal of this team should be to find the players who will help them make the playoffs four years from now and determine if Porter should be the guy managing that team.
So why not give bud a chance to see if he can work out of pressure situations? That will help develop him, right?
Sorry if I'm coming in late here, but I thought Bedard made our rotation Was Porter just trying to use the best arm he had since this is a big game for the Astros, and Bedard doesn't have to pitch for a while?
