His ceiling is higher than Bass. His jump shot alone makes it so. Also doesn't get lost on D as much as Bass does. Ideally you want Pat as a backup, with the starter being the star you sign with the upcoming cap room. And when you do have that star PF you prefer having Pat off the bench than Robinson.
What potential has Patterson shown? He's a Small forward in the body of a powerforward with a streaky jumpshot. That is Patrick Patterson. If his jumpshot was as consistent as some would have you believe, he'd actually be Dirk Nowitzki...but his jumpshot is average, some nights it is there and some nights it is not and the nights it is not then he's not going to give you much else. Also again, Rockets have been doing just fine without Patterson and Robinson has flashed his potential several times. Carl even said so a game or so back in the game thread, but I guess he expects a rookie to have the consistency of a 7 year vet or he's going to take every shot at our Rookie for every bad game he has.
Carl Herrera is certainly winning this debate so far. T-Rob is already out of the rotation 6/7 games into his Rockets career while the Kings have a winning record since they traded for 2Pat. Anyone who says otherwise is a homer. Homers will mention "upside" & incredible athleticism blah blah blah but that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to pan out and become Blake Griffin MK2. Right now T-Rob is an undersized 4 who can't rebound, defend, shoot, has stone hands & makes bone-headed plays every other game. He's arguably the 4th worst PF on our roster at the moment, D-Mo, Greg Smith and hell, even T-Jones, if he got the minutes Robinson has been getting are far better options.
Nope. Because the debate was never about comparing Patterson to this years Robinson. The debate was that the Rockets would miss the playoffs without Patterson and that wasn't worth a shot at a kid with potential. Also you are completely wrong that he can't rebound or defend and has stone hands. That is all completely wrong. It's also debatable if D-mo is better than him right now.
TRob is not about this season, it was a move made by the Rockets for the future that did absolutely nothing to hurt the team for this season. Congratulations to Sac they got an nice roll player in PPat and of TRob never works out then they made a nice trade. But make no mistake, PPat is an irrelevant player that does little to help turn a team into a championship contender. Don't fall into the same trap as CH in believing that PPat is an all star caliber player that the Rockets just gave away. PPat is mostly irrelevant and clearly the Rockets gave been just as good or better with out him.
Still funny how people expect Robinson to already be on Patterson's level or else he's a bust and it's a horrible trade...LOL
Only someone dumb enough to want to trade for Pau would think Patterson is a major reason the Kings have started winning more games.
The great Carl Herrera and his impeccable scouting skills. He knows without a doubt that Robinson won't develop into anything because it didn't work out for guys like Jordan Hill and Hasheem Thabeet. I remember when he called Morris "Busty Morris" and then he had the nerve to b**** about us trading him away. Will CH use any facts to explain why he hates T-Rob so much? All I hear is "he sucks", "he's terrible", etc. My lord, big men can take some time to develop. My favorite part of his trolling is how he highlights every single bad game or mistake Robinson makes, but he just casts aside the nice games by saying he had too many turnovers, had a lucky game, etc. At this point, it doesn't really matter what Robinson does. He can be 20-10, lead the league in rebounds, Hall of Fame, and CH will still b**** and moan like a Puritan lady whose period hath stopped.
Robinson is a rookie and young. He joined a team in a playoff push. Let's see what he can do with an off season with the Rockets before we label him a bust.
I think another point that gets missed in the trade debate was the general jaw-dropping around league exec's that T-Rob would be given up on so early for a player with such minimal upside. That Sacto didn't bother to shop the player and he could have surely gotten a better package had they excercised their due diligence. Noone has said P-Pat is a scrub. Everyone is saying P-Pat is solid player on a team but nothing more. He is not a star or even a solid starter for that matter. The ignorance of this thread and continued thoughts by the amigo are that they overlook the state of our team and the logical place of improvement that needed to come from the power forward position. Moreover, this team had a glut of talented, yet unproven power forwards that needed to be vetted through and were able to attain another - while getting rid of two that had played enough to show what they were. It's not about b****es and riders. East and West. It's about power forwards that can elevate the team to a championship. Which side you on.
Some people just wont get it. They get fixated on a player and that just clouds there critique and judgement.
so you are implying that patterson has been the reason kings are winning??? than how about this ever since he has been traded we have beaten spurs, thunder and clippers when he wsa here we were terrible against top teams also trob has stone hands? i did not see that .. oh and a rookie being thrown into a playoff reason middle of the season is lost go figure, how is that even possible huh?
Funny how the pro-trade crow have evolved. First, we got guys saying "we are already better TRob is only bad due to being in horrible Sacramento and Pat is useless (and so is Morris) and McHale needs to be forced to play our great rookies!" Then when Robinson struggled, it's "The trade is about DMo!" Then when DMo also struggled it's "Trade not about this season! Wait til next year!" Now I wonder what the excuse is when next year rolls around. And btw, Morris was busty last season. Couldn't play and had ****ty attitude. He is better now on both fronts. Not great, only worth 2nd rd pick, but still better than Robinson.
