32 TDs - 12 INTs good. Nothing to sneeze at.

This. Palmer was nearing elite status his 2nd season but that dirty hit to his knee by Kimo von Oelhoffen of the Steelers in the playoffs was career-changing. He had a decent career afterwards but was never quite the same afterwards.

I'm a lifelong Steelers fan. IMO, without that hit, the Steelers would have lost to the Bengals and not won the Super Bowl that year. B4L and BigBenito, do you agree or disagree? Do you also remember that hit like it was yesterday? I thought it was dirty.

Sadly, my memory of the that game isn't too strong. Bengals would have certainly had a better shot - but wasn't it like the first series? To annoy Bengal fans I'll say that yes, without the hit the Bengals were setup to contend for the next couple super bowls.

I just can't help but think the Bungles would have found a way to lose it. But, yes the pre-injury Palmer was much much better.

i'm a bengals fan....i don't think the shot was dirty. he was pushed from behind into carson. **** happens. of course most fans on both sides were standing by their team, so bengals fans were screaming dirty play...i don't think it was.

it was brutal to watch though after...that pass actually ended being completed to chad for a huge gain. it was like their second play of the entire game.

don't remember who the backup was that had to come in...don't think it was gradkowski yet...but it didn't matter.

also i agree about it changing palmer...i'm not sure he's ever quite gotten over it mentally. though his problem is he throws into double coverage a ton...not sure why that is...not sure if its because he can't get a line to protect him so he rushes...seems its on him more than anyone though.

found myself asking a ton...why did he throw that?

because . . .one upon a time. . . he could make that throw
He doesn't realize he cannot anymore?

No, it was the elbow injury that robbed him of arm strength -- that being said he's still not that bad. He'll improve the Cards next year if they do end up getting him.

Sure enough his arm maybe wasn't quite the same after the elbow, but I know exactly what FlyerFanatic means. Maybe more than any other QB I've observed, it looked like some of Palmer's INTs were on almost on purpose. You know, the kind that left you wondering what in the world was on his mind.

If they get him, Palmer would help the Cards and be a decent placeholder next season. Too bad they share a division with the 49ers and Seahawks.

Yeah, you're right he was definitely hearing footsteps for a while -- I think he's over it now, but his arm strength is gone.

I have always been told that throwing was a full body motion
from the Planting of the foot to the whip action of the arm
    So
Maybe the leg is part of the issue

Good deal for the Raiders, erasing bad mistakes from the previous regime.

If Flynn sucks, I guess Pryor starts.

Palmer wasnt that bad for the Raiders, decent passer rating last year.

But then WAIT - the "QBR" stat says he was down at the bottom.

So Palmer has very mediocre passer rating in 2011, but a STRONG QBR.
He has IMPROVED servicable passer rating 2012, but QBR said he STANK.

I guess fantasy football measures now are about as accurate in QB assessment too.

A key in that is someone still wants Palmer. Not sure if there's dead money in salary cap involved, I guess AZ takes on full contract. But though Palmer was decent at times, Flynn in seems a good tradeoff to me.

There's a lot questions marks with the Raiders now anyway. Don't know if McFadden can wake up out of bed without getting injured, they've lost some key contributors and just added semi-decent ones. But even the contributors just led them to 4 wins. Now they get to retool.

The Raiders have adjusted Matt Flynn’s contract to increase his guaranteed money from $2 million in 2013 to $6.5 million. All $6.5 million is fully guaranteed.

To get there, the Raiders increased Flynn’s base salary from $5.25 million in 2013 and decreased his 2014 base salary by $1.25 million, from $6.25 million down to $5 million. Making the entire 2013 compensation fully guaranteed means that Flynn definitely will have a roster spot with the Raiders for the coming season.

Also, the available escalators and incentives were increased by $200,000, with a maximum value now at $26.4 million over three years. Flynn already received $8 million from the Seahawks in 2012.
