No, he's just not a starting-quality power forward. Anyone who thinks he's a small forward doesn't understand basketball.
He's in the Bargnani-Nowitzki mold, only nowhere as good. If he wants to stay in this league, he needs to bulk up.
He is more of a C than a SF. Excellent touch around the rim, great at pick and rolls, great passer from the post. Today when he was at C he actually got a few rebounds, and thats happened the other times he has been at C. When it comes to 1 on 1 defense, there arent too many Cs in the West, or the league really, to really punish him 1 on 1. The main issue is with guards driving, he isnt exactly what u would call a "presence in the paint". Excellent at taking charges though. Kind of his only option at this point, but his charges taken per 36 has to lead the league
He is the KING of island of miss fit toys. He is a miss match at any spot he plays which is not always good. He needs to be flexable and play any spot that is a miss match to our favor. I don't think he can gaurd a small forward though. When the coach uses him the right way he will look like an ALL-STAR till then just a 7 foot misfit. (like the Knick's C.Smith from back in the day)
This was Dirk until he got bigger and stronger. I don't see why D-mo can't be considered the same thing.
He plays like a tweener right now because he doesn't have the bulk to take on bigger players and doesn't have the speed to matchup with faster players. So yes, he's a stretch 4(or SF if you like) and not being very good at it. Once he goes through strength training, he'll be a PF/C. He might not be good at it, but those are the only positions he has a chance to defend.
all he needs to do is bulk up and he's a legit pf. but just cuz he's not strong enough to handle pf 30mpg doesnt mean he should move down to sf.
