I want to be native american. Only people darker than me have the legal right to be native american. Its my civil right to have equal rights :(

I think a lot of people don't really understand separation of church and state.

I wonder what the guys who made that image think of the Republican House spending millions to defend DOMA.

Please don't quote images like that, from either "side." Thank you.

For a little relevant levity, since marriage is only about procreation:

Would've spoilered it but it was a response to someone else's post.

Anyway the only people in Federal government besides, the USSC, spending time and resources on this are Congressional Republicans. The Executive branch is actually saving money by not defending DOMA.

I had another thought about those who argue that government shouldn't be involved in marriage at all. While in principle I agree with that position but I have to ask where is the movement behind it?

This smacks of social conservatism disguising itself as libertarianism. I would have much more respect for that position if the cases brought against Prop 8 and DOMA were from libertarians arguing for government to get completely out of marriage.

    Idiotic. Insensitive.

A good example the modern day intolerance that most are trying to alleviate.

No, this civil right like any civil isn't about people choosing what race they are. What a horrible comparison.

The civil rights is about allowing the people to have the same rights. Nobody has the right to be a native American. Either you are or you aren't. It isn't a right. There are things you can do to learn about that culture, and you can submerge yourself in it.

deleted the part where you started your pseudo science.

but since you came in with this, allow me to give you a response.

for one, no one in this thread compared the gay rights movement to the civil rights movement referring to African Americans before you brought it up.

next- civil rights are civil rights, they don't belong to one era or movement.

'I love you, too': Cardinal Dolan says Catholic Church must embrace gays and lesbians

Prominent U.S. Cardinal Timothy Dolan acknowledged Easter Sunday that the Catholic Church needs to forge a better relationship with the gay and lesbian community.

    Follow @NBCNewsUS

“We gotta do better to see that our defense of marriage is not reduced to an attack on gay people,” Dolan said. “And I admit, we haven’t been too good about that. We try our darndest to make sure we’re not anti-anybody.”

Dolan, the charismatic Archbishop of New York, made his comments on ABC’s “This Week” nearly one week after the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments for and against Proposition 8, California’s gay marriage ban, and the Defense of Marriage Act, the 1996 law that blocks federal recognition of gay marriages.

Dolan called for a more conciliatory approach to gay and lesbian Catholics who may feel alienated by Church doctrine, which is traditionally opposed to homosexuality.

“The first thing I’d say to them is, ‘I love you, too, and God loves you, and we want your happiness,’” he said.

But Dolan added that he wasn’t sure how Catholic leaders should conduct better outreach to homosexuals.

“I don’t know. We’re still trying. We’re trying our best to do it. We got to listen to people,” Dolan said. “Jesus died on the cross for them as much as he did for me.”

Despite the appeal for inclusiveness, Dolan said the Church is unlikely to reverse their position on same-sex marriage.

“Sexual love … is intended only for a man and woman in marriage, where children can come about naturally,” he said.

rodan is correct to the extent that gay people make as much of a choice for their sexual preference as native americans do for their racial heritage.

    Isn't it funny:

    Evolution would squash homosexuality.
God has a negative opinion on homosexuality.

So where exactly does homosexuality fit in the whole scheme of life?

(I'll hangup and listen to your replies)

edit: nvmd, i think i see what you're saying. you're saying as a theory homosexuality doesn't fit in with evolution right? not that evolution would weed homosexuals out of a society.

Actually, evolution created homosexuality, and not just in humans.
