I blame the Red Rowdies. People don't want to go to games and hear that pack of freaks cheer all game long.

This article is trash. They put the complete totals for Indiana but not Houston. We average 16,555 people in attendance a game. Doesn't sound like that much but consider that we don't have the biggest arena. We fill up almost 92% a game. Not that bad compared to the Pacers 82%. We are ahead of the Grizzlies, Pacers, Hawks and Bucks in this regard ( all playoff teams). We are tied for 4th in filling road arenas with the Knicks, with the only playoff teams ahead of us being the Heat and Thunder. Lakers if they make it, also. The pacers are 26th in filling road arenas. This article is flawed and pretty poorly executed in terms of research.

God, I wish they didn't compare Houston to Indy. NBA basketball truly is dead for the majority in Indy. Indiana University basketball probably gets a higher rating then the Pacers games.

Some good post season buzz and not trading away fan favorites will do wonders for attendance. Outside of die hards knowing of Parsons and Patterson, no one really knew this team at the beginning of the season and even now they don't know what to expect from the team due to how inconsistent they occasionally are.

The author of this article is clearly not aware of the Comcast Sports Net saga going on down here in H-Town

Perhaps Indiana, but the data is probably flawed for Houston. Houston's fan base probably grew a lot with the addition of Jeremy Lin initially and now with the emerging play of Harden. The AllStar voting does speak a little volume about a team's fan base.

Better thank the Lin fans for helping keep the organization afloat financially. We need all the fans we can get. With Lin, we can count on a billion. Tv ratings were crap after yao retired. All these LOH should quit whining and be grateful they still have a team to watch.

    What a horrible terrible post.

I guess TV ratings were crap during the Hakeem era too then huh?

Fans should be grateful that they have a smart GM that has quickly made this one of the more exciting teams in the NBA.

The Rockets will be fine. Just get to the postseason and [hopefully] Harden will be Harden (if he still has energy). Fans will take notice come playoff time, and that'll spread into next year.

And if they get another All-Star caliber player, then great.

Muchos credit for Morey for making this team relevant the past few years. Thank god they aren't the Astros.

Houston's a football city first and foremost. It'll always be a basketball city 2nd. I wouldn't call that struggling, especially considering they're always in the middle of the pack in terms of ticket sales.

Almost every city is a football city. But I bet Houston has a more out of town fans like Lakers or whoever.

Those TV numbers are shocking.........most Euroleague teams are doing 200,000 to 2 million a game just in their own country, let alone all of Europe.

the author finally realized the real reason for Houston's low TV rating at the end of his post notes, but to say Houston Rockets is "struggling to survive" is far reaching.

This is just another poorly conducted research paper.

You do know the Knicks games are like 10x more expensive than a Rockets game right? During Linsanity, I tried getting a Lakers vs Knicks ticket, worst seats cost over $300. Best over $10k, that's how you make some money in this business. You can sell 100% of your seats, but if your only making $5 a ticket for the crappy spots your not making much except for revenue on food and merchandise. The Knicks dont even need to sell expensive food and merchandise(which they do) and they'd make money.

lol, that's true. I went to a Magic game, was too cheap to buy a soft drink so I asked them for a cup and went to the fountain and got my "drink".
Don't you see the empty seats in the premium camera spots, I see lots of Lin fans or just Lin's family there all the time :).

Based off this sloppy analysis, if Comcast struck a deal with everyone, the amount of people that would watch the Rockets would double. Considering the amount of households would increase by 60%, and the new figure would then be multiplied by 2.8, which is the average amount of people per house. How in the hell would that only double the amount of people watching the Rockets? Simple math tells us it would increase the amount of people watching games by 2.5 times, not 2.
